I like the one about having a loose axel thingy or whatever (I'm not much of a car guy) will come off when you hit a bumb, get lodged into that bump, then make your cars backside jump.

Whoa, that's a pretty cool.

Heh. I remember seeing that on Mythbusters. Although I think they busted that one.

They did that one on there? I've always wondered what would happen if the drive shaft fell out from the front. My universals were going bad a few years ago and I was afraid to find out.

Don't worry about it. As KISS stated above, they had to do some crazy things to make it work- it's totally unrealistic.

Just out of curiousity then, just exactly what does it cause? I figure it would knock the rear axle out if its not enough to pole vault the car.

More than likely Matt, it'ss mess up your allingment, as well as messing up your axel, making you get a new one. Meaning that you'll be spending a pretty penny to fix it.

One myth I've heard about is the flying car into a mountain myth. Apperently someone strapped a jet engine to the roof of his car, and when it was started, he passed out because he was going too fast. His car hit a bump and got airborne. It eventually crashed into a montain, where the police first thought it was a plane crash. That was until they found part of the steering wheel embedded into the mountain.

Was that the guy who supposedly strapped a JATO to his car? He's got an entry in the Darwin Awards.

I believe that is the same person, yes.

One of my favorites goes a little something like-a this.

In some country in Europe, two semis collided head-on in a horrific accident that killed both drivers. The cabs of the two semis were fused together and had to be taken to a body shop so they could be cut open and the bodies removed. After the two drivers were removed, some of the shop workers noticed a horrific stink coming from the fused cabs. After a lot of cutting, grinding, sawing and prying, they found the flattened wreckage of a compact car in between the cabs of the semis, with a similarly flattened driver pancake inside. It turns out the unluck driver was caught between the two semis when they colided.

Anywho, they tested it on Mythbusters, and while the test didn't go off exactly as planned, they still felt confident enough in their test to say it was busted.

Another favorite is the 360 degree swing myth, also tested on Mythbusters, and only successfully executed with the assistance of ROCKETS! VEEEERRRROOOOM PEEEOOOOOOM PSHHH PSHHH PSHHHOOOOOOOW!

For it to actually gut caught it has to be timed to the second. So, for it to even catch anything you would have to be extremley un/lucky. Otherwise it just drags along the ground.

And yes, it would jump if it worked.

I've seen that one done before without a rocket. Granted, the way they described it being done, with the chain being tight all the way around, isn't possible (unless you have a REALLY high speed or a constant force), but I know it's been done. Basically, you go up and sorta fall over the top bar. So it's not so much swinging all the way around as it is go up, and fall, which is funny to see.

Mythbusters rules, though, and they got it right, it's pretty much impossible to go all the way around with the chain tight. It's not much easier to go over the top at all.

My favorite part of that episode was when Tory (the goatee guy) broke the chains on the swing set by going up too high. The chains went slack and he just went straight down. I was ROTF all over the place.

The one about getting curly hair if you eat bread crusts. It's boring and lame, but it worked for me! ;)

The Mythbusters also tested whether toast or bread with butter or peanut butter always lands butter-side down. They built a rather elaborate rig to test it, and found no correlation between the butter and the side that hits the ground. I still say they're wrong.
