I think I got a great deal on this computer. I made a $99 down payment and 13 weekly payments of $39,99 then send an additional 3 to 12 payments
then 1 final payment before the computer was shipped. I then continue to make weekly payments for a year (52 total) and then I own this baby!

seriouly, what a fraud. The total comes to $2178.48 when you could just buy a computer for a lot lower.

if you don't belive this sorry excuse for a company, here's the wiki page:

i would say that you should of gone to wal-mart and bought one of those Cheap Compaq Computers for $500. but still, lets hope its not a rip off, and will be good enought to at least Run Windows and an Internet Browser.

Forget the Compaq, at MicroCenter you can get a $200 box with Linspire Linux preinstalled. Sure, it's low end, but you can't get much cheaper for a new machine.

Most rent to own places are like that. They exist for people who have crappy/no credit.

That's the only reason at all I can see for someone buying something that way.

You can't call it fraud, though, because the details are pretty much put right out into the open. Don't sign the contract til you read it. I swear, everytime someone says "I didn't read it, I just signed it", I just want to slap them.

A VERY low end Dell laptop from a local RTO place ends up costing almost twice what I paid for my laptop (and my lappy is a lot better).

I'm with COLA, if you need a cheap compy that you're just gonna use for typing and stuff like that, go to the local Stuff Mart or any other "Big Box" retailer and get one.

Granted, you won't get the customization options like you would if you were ordering from Dell or Gateway, but your average joe doesn't need a lot.

I DO hate Compaqs, though, but the problem I have with them only comes up when you decide to work on them (eg, they're too small to work inside),

You should go and bribe the guy, if possible, that gave you that computer with 14 dollars in unmarked bills.

$2500 is not a lot for something that most would consider a top end computer (although gaming boxes can go for even more than that).. Of course, the ones from Blue Hippo or any of those places are far from top end.

Here are the specs on this $2097.48 box
* 256 Megs of RAM
* Intel 2.66 Gigahertz processor
* 80 Gig hard drive
* 17" color monitor
* CD Rom drive
* 3yr warranty
* Microsoft Windows XP

They don't say what kind of processor it is.. I love that.

They go on to say
Quote:
Each computer is priced on a weekly basis and you make payments for just 12 months. This way, we can keep the payments small and at the end of one year you will own one of these brand new top-of-the-line computers.

Since we don't check your credit, we do ask that you build a short credit history with us by making 3 month's worth of payments before we ship the computer. It's that simple!

I love "top of the line". HAHA

Their lappy is
* 128MB DDR SDRAM
* Intel® Processor 2.2GHz with 256K cache
* 20GB ultra ATA100 5400rpm hard drive
* 14.1" XGA TFT Active Matrix
* 48x CD-ROM
* 3yr warranty
* Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
* NiMH battery and AC pack
for $2599.48

I know this is for people with poor/no credit, but if you have the money to make these payments, you'd be a lot better saving for 3 months and buying a better computer than one of these.
