A boolean search.

For exemplar . . .

When you enter Homestar Runner into the Google search box, it'll search for the word Homestar and the word Runner.

However, if you type in "Homestar Runner" with quotes, it will search for the complete phrase Homestar Runner right next to each other.

When you type in TBC, Google will search for the word TBC, resulting in things referring to The Brothers Chaps (if someone types it as TBC) and also, uh, I don't know, let's say The Boxing Channel (if someone types it as TBC).

However, if you type in TBC -boxing then it will search for the word TBC and the minus tells Google not to search for pages with the word boxing in them.

Also, if you type in TBC +Chaps then it will search for the word TBC and the word Chaps (it normally does the plus automatically).

There are also many other ways to make your search more specific, such as searching for a specific domain name (.com,.org,.net) or how old a page is, etc., but you can specify this through the "advanced search" page of Google, in small print above the "search" button (i think.)

Boolean searches can narrow down 2 million pages to 2 pages. Learn it. Remember it. Use it.
