The sad thing is that is true. It is illegal to fish in Kentucky with a bow and arrow. It's also illegal to have an ice cream cone in your back pocket.

I dunno, I've always considered PDFs the land mines of the internet, 'cause by the time you've stepped on one, it's already too late, and they take forever to download.

Well put. I have this online textbook thing, and all of the images are PDFs. When i try to close them, it locks up and takes so long to unlock.

Part of that is due to it loading so many unneccessary extensions. Maybe this link will help.

The people that wrote the 2006 Kentucky Sport Fishing Guide wrote:
BOW FISHING (301 KAR 1:090) Rough fish may be taken year-round by bow and arrow with line attached, but paddlefish may not be taken at night. Sport fish may not be taken with a bow and arrow. Catfish have a daily limit of 5 (paddlefish are not catfish.) No bow and arrow may be used within 700 yards below Kentucky Dam or within 200 yards of any other dam in the state. Bow fishing is prohibited on the list of streams in the “Kentucky Trout Waters” section of this guide. Bow fishing is also prohibited on the three rivers listed under the “Gigging and Snagging” section of this guide. Persons using a bow and arrow for fishing must have the appropriate fishing license and may take rough fish from bank or boat. There is no limit on other rough fish.

That's because most whaling is done from a boat, which is, in fact, a moving vehicle. Of course, whaling is illegal now. I think.

- The longest word in the English language is 1909 letters long and it refers to a distinct part of DNA.

- If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months, and 6 days, continuously, you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee. Not really worth it, is it?

- Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour.

- The human heart creates enough pressure to squirt blood 30 feet.

- The flea can jump 350 times its body length. That's like a human jumping the length of a football field.

- The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates the mating process by ripping the male's head off. Kind of a sour deal, huh?

And I've seen at least two postings of the "coke was originally green" fact and only one rebuttal. The fact is that if there was no caramel coloring in it, Coca-Cola would be green. It was never 'originally' green - it's brown because when it was first produced, the dark color hid anything that happened to fall into the batch while it was being made - from rocks and bits of ceiling to large insects.

Those cancer tests are unfair. Remember the big scare back in the mid 90s when people said that the red dye in red M&Ms caused cancer when tested on rats? Well, it turns out that the amount of that red dye they were injecting the rats with was so great that a person would have to eat 1,000 red M&Ms a day, every day, for over 100 years to get the same effect. That person would have died of much more than red dye cancer before then. So, yeah--I don't trust these sorts of "facts," because they're all misleading and don't give you all the information.

Oh, and 72% of all statistics are made up.

Here's one I learned yesterday...

The space shuttle doesn't actually leave the earth's atmosphere.

It does, in the sense of the atmosphere as it concerns me, but there is still an atmospheric pressure (a VERY small one) on the outside of the ship. It's well below anything that could even be considered a "thin" atmosphere, but yea. There is still an atmosphere. When you define atmosphere as a density greater than the density of "outer space" the earth's atmosphere extends to something like 100,000 km..
The shuttle, at it's highest point (when it docks with ISS) is about 350 km.

350 km <<100,00km

-35,000 people in the U.S. will die from the flu annually .

-An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.

-Kite flying is a professional sport in Thailand.

-Natural gas has no smell. The odor is artificially added so that people will be able to identify leaks and take measures to stop them.

-The Stanley Cup originally was only seven and a half inches high.

-The United States produces enough plastic film annually to cover the entire state of Texas.

-The average office worker spends 50 minutes a day looking for lost files and other items.

-Apples are 25% air.

I love that last one.

REBUTTAL'D!

According to this source, male praying mantes (that's the correct plural form) can copulate with their heads intact. In the wild, sexual cannibalism is fairly rare, and even in captivity, it only occurs 10-30% of the time.

J.R.R. Tolkien originally wanted his epic masterpiece "The Lord of the Rings" to be published as a single, massive volume with 6 parts. However, the original publisher, Allen and Unwin, devided the book into three parts to keep costs down. The release of each book was delayed due to the inclusion of maps, indices, and in the case of the Return of the King, appendices. Tolkien dislike the title of the last book because he felt it gave away too much of the story. He proposed "The War of the Ring" as an alternate title, but the publisher refused to change it.
