Ok, we have a "favorite movie" type thread, but what we don't have is a thread for movies that everyone likes, but we can't get into.

So, now we do.

What are some movies that everyone thinks you'll like, but you can't get into.

For me, this list is huge.

*Star Wars 1,2,3: Everyone thinks that, because I love the originals, I will love these too. The truth is, these movies made me anti-Star Wars

*Napoleon Dynamite: Sorry, it's just not that funny

*Lord of The Rings: Not my thing. Dunno why, I SHOULD like them, but I don't.

*Anything by M. Night Shyamalan: Another one of those that I don't know why I don't like them. It's probably got something to do with the fact that I don't like horror movies. They just don't scare me. They confuse me, but they don't scare me. Movies about nuclear war (like Sum of All Fears) scare me.

*Scarface: face it, the movie is over-rated. OVER RATED, I SAY!

*Jackie Brown: I love Quentin Tarintino's flicks, but, for whatever reason, Jackie Brown doesn't feel right.

That's about all I can think of right now.. I know there are a lot more.

I usually have a good sense for what movies I'd actually like to watch, so I rarely see crap. =/ But, um, I guess Lord of the Rings. I haven't watched all of it, but I just can't bring myself to actually sit down and see.

Napoleon Dynamite is there, too. There were a few really funny parts, but for the most part, I can't really see how some people can get obsessed over it. *shrug*

Meh, I dunno. I don't watch a whole lot of movies, so my list is ...short.

Though sometimes I think I'm the only person that likes a particular movie.

64-Chapter 36: Swords Dunce

This thread kinda reminds me of that Seinfeld episode, "The English Patient". Y'know, where Elaine became a social outcast with her friends and boyfriend and boss because she didn't like a movie that they all loved. And my mum's actually seen that movie, and she agrees with Elaine.

Anyway, to be on topic... Um... The only one that comes to mind is Narnia. It was all right, but the way my sister raves about it, I almost expected more. Maybe reading the books would help

Bieng a bit of a movie snob, this topic is right up my alley...

Okay, first off, just about any movie starring Will Ferrell sets my teeth on edge. A bunch o' friends of mine love the guy but I guess I just don't get his style of humor.

Apparently the olde 'Dune' movie is a cult classic (just re-released with 4+ hours of footage). Never saw the appeal. It looks pretty but it's still a bad movie by a hack director.

I felt the same way about Narnia. I just came away feeling like it was lacking. There was so much more that it could have been. /shrug

There are only a couple critically acclaimed movies I can think of that I've been told are supposedly brilliant which completely left me cold - The Royal Tenenbaums and Fight Club. Yawn.

Oh and as for Napoleon Dynamite, I thought it was a very good movie overall, but I think in many ways H*R is a lot more effective at taking that style of random humor to its' full potential.

Come on, people! Napoleon rocks.

As for me, I'd say, erm, any Fairly OddParents! movie, not that anyone who's worth their nuts should like that crap, but that's the only thing that comes to mind when someone says "movies you don't like." I especially hate Channel Chasers, (tries to put on a barfing emoticon and notices that the site doesn't have one)

Okay, Napolean Dynomite seems to be the debate of choice right now, so I'll throw in my opinion. I just didn't find much that was funny in this movie. I got it, it's supposed to be one of those 'quirky small-town' films but still...

I'd hardly call Dune a classic or David Lynch a hack. The guy is amazing, he just ended up working on a really bad film in his youth

I myself retrospectively dislike The Breakfast Club and Adaptation, both films with a cult following amongst my social crowd. There was some dreary flick about drug dealing and new-age living which a friend of mine insisted I had to watch and which was boring as hell as well. I don't remember what it was though, though it was definitely English

Dynamite is supposed to be film with stupid humour and little plot. You have to appreciate the small things about it, like the moonboots he wears all the time or the fact that he never opens his eyes while talking. And anything Kip does.

Off that subject, I'm going to have to say Corpse Bride. Don't get me, wrong, I really like the movie, but it could've been so much better.

People who say things like that (and mean it) are another reason I don't like those movies. Kinda like how Star Wars fans have almost turned me against Star Wars.

I'm gonna totally agree with the Star Wars thing. I loved the original ones as a child, but after seeing episode 1 and 2 almost made me not go to see episode 3. (That's an almost. My father still dragged me to see it.)

Yeah, rad, I get what you mean about the fans. I was blown away the first time I saw the Fellowship of the Ring. I wasn't expecting the movie to be that good.

Fair enough, Lynch is a critically acclaimed director. I just have strong opinions about him. But that's another topic.

I kinda get bugged when movies mess with a science fiction classic. Starship Troopers was another one. Everyone I know loved that movie. While it is a great popcorn movie, it's still always annoyed me that it was never anything like the book.

I enjoyed the book. I still like Heinlen's idea of joining the military for two years in order to be able to participate in politics. That, and the powersuits were pretty awesome.

I think that you have to have a very specific knowledge of the culture that Napoleon Dynamite is about to fully appreciate the movie. I laughed till it hurt when I watched this movie. But I can understand how not everyone can fully appreciate it.

As far as Star Wars goes, I had little expectations since the episode #1 came out, and thus I was actually pleased with episode #2. But you can't be too hard on them, if you go back to the originals, they are pretty easy to mock if you objectively watch them.... "You could tell LUKE, is that who you could tell?"... "I....." "I'm sorry" "Hold me!" Tell me that's golden dialogue and Ive got some swamp land to sell you.

Personally, a movie that others seem to go bonkers about that I personally thought was crap was Raising Arizona... blah.

anywho, thats my two cents.

I like those movies. They need to make some Voyager ones, though.

I didn't really like narnia. It was okay, and I'll prolly go and see any more that they make, but I really didn't feel like going and watching it again.

The books are the main reason I don't want to watch the movie.
I loved those books when I was a kidlet. I have this whole idea of how everything should be, and if the least thing isn't right, I fear that I'll hate the movie.
I was glad to hear they made a movie, but I know that there is no way it can live up to my expectations, so I don't want to see it, for fear of thinking negatively of the series.
