Blasphemy! all nirvana and grunge bands are all just EMOs!

Hmm. When in doubt of how/what something is, call it emo. That's what the majority of people do. Honestly, you people need to discover some REAL emo music. ;)

Anywho, I can't give an balanced opinion on Pearl Jam since I haven't really heard *that* much of them. So. I'm not going to instantly say thay suck. I don't know.

However, Nirvana is a different story. I have a lovely [bunch of coconuts] pile of Nirvana stuff so you can definitely say that I like them better - only due to not-knowing-ness of Pearl Jam.

I guess I will rank the Big Four according to my preferences:

1.)Soundgarden - Chris Cornell's voice IS rocknroll. Superunknown is probably one of the most perfect albums I've ever listened to. Not a bad song on there.

2.)Alice In Chains - I could watch the MTV Unplugged every day and never get bored of it. Layne and Jerry harmonize well. Very haunting songs.

3.)Pearl Jam - A band that really shows growth over the years. They didn't get stuck doing the same thing every album. And the opening riffs of the Vs. albums still give me chills.

4.)Nirvana - I always liked Nirvana, but never really thought they were very good. They have catchy tunes, but they are basically just loud pop songs. However my opinion of them improved greatly when I heard those several Ledbelly covers on the box set that came out in 2004. Very good stuff. Also the fact that the helped rid the world of hair bands was a very good thing.

Yay. My first two-page worthy post. Gee i have no life....
Anyhow, I'm still stickin' with Pearl Jam.

Say, do any other radio stations out there pride themselves about having the worst-quality recording of (blank) band, and continually play it, regardless of how stupid it may sound? Example: Plateau by Nirvana, or ANY End session from 100.7 the end.

Wow, I don't know where I was for this thread... Here goes my couple of cents.

I personally like PJ better than Nirvana, but there is so much to both bands that its seems a bit shallow to say which do you like more. I don't really care for PJ's current direction musically, but I am glad to see them branch out at the same time. Also, as has been mentioned, there are others who really out perform both bands. Soundgarden was a really good band. Cornell wrote very well and the whole band worked very well technically and emotionally. Stone Temple Pilots also deserve a little recognition imo. Although they were accused of just being part of the grunge trend, their sophmore album was the one of the best albums to come out of the ninties in my opinion. They also diverersified quite a bit and didn't settle on riding the grunge train.

Nirvana, if only because it was such a HUGE part of my childhood. I grew up listening to them ... my family didn't get into PJ until later.

Both bands are awesome, however.
