read? what does that mean?
i only read what i want when i want. right now im reading "The Shadow Over innsmouth" by, you guessed it, H.P. Lovecraft. if someone tells em to read soemthing, i most likeley wont read it.

I got into a weird discussion with a friend today concerning reading. She said that reading as casual entertainment was pretty much dying out, citing the usual culprits like TV and computers. She was amazed when I told her I read 2-3 books a week just for fun. It got me thinking, how often does anyone read anymore? Judging by the fact that the ‘What book are you reading right now’ topic is usually on the first page of the OTD forum, its obvious people here read, so this here thread is just to satisfy curiosity. Who here reads, and how often? Even if it’s just a magazine from time to time. Heck, even if you don’t read, put up a post. |

I read internet forums...>> As for reading for liesure--I really don't take the time. I get so busy with school and social life (both online and offline) that I don't alot myself time to read as I should. I've been wanting to read a book called "The Tipping Point," however--it's a book about how and why things (at least in America) become widely popular. My friend read it and said it was pretty interesting. |

I read tons, but none of it is leisure. On average, I'm expected to digest the contents of 2 or 3 scientific papers per week. That's beyond my homework and work. Guh |

I read stuff all the time. I try to shoot for 2-3 hours on good days, maybe 1 on a school day. EDIT: Whoops, forgot to tell you. It's all leisure reading. Any school reading is outside that time. |

I read books when I buy them. I buy books every couple of months. And I usually finish an average book- let's say, 300 pages- in a single night. So every time I buy books, it takes me about 1 and a half days to finish them. I read in binges. |

Forgot to mention: If it's a book I'm really excited about I'll read all day long. Like one time it took me 1/2 a day to read Harry Potter 5... that was really scary. |

When it comes to book's and television. I spend 98% of my time reading, and 2% watching movies. I go through about 2 books over two weeks. P.S. The 2% of movies is Anime, and Animation. I don't watch anything else. |

I used to read obsessively when I was very young (like, around ages 3-7), but the reasons I barely read anymore have little to do with the usual suspects like TV and computers. It's mainly due to my short attention span, my tendency to miss really important details, comprehension things like that, which weren't as much a problem when I was reading short stories. Pretty much everyone in the rest of my family are avid readers, though, and one of my brothers even works at Borders, so you'd probably have a harder time convincing them that reading is, in fact, "dying out". |

I'm reading about 4 books right now, at the same time. My room is full of books. I'm a total bookworm. But you know what? People in general really don't read. I ranted about this elsewhere a couple days ago. I've noticed, through FF.net and school and other places where reading is done, lots of people consider 1000+ words for a chapter "long". Long? What? |

I should note that the only reason I read 2-3 books a week, is becasue I have way too much time on my hands. If I ever get a real job, that number will drop substantially. I've got this 'Rainman' thing when it comes to reading, I can read several books at once (not literally) and I never use bookmarks. I just note what page number I'm on and it sticks with me until I pick the book up again. It's like, the lamest parlor trick in the world. -KS |

Reading is one of my favorite pastimes, but unfortunately I read agonizingly slowly and don't have a lot of time for it, so I average about one book every three weeks or so. I tend to buy books at a much faster pace than I'm able to read them. |

I read comics. No, serriously. I do a fair amount of reading, me still being in school I have to, but I also like to read for fun. I, like IJ, am not a very fast reader, though, so it usually takes me a while to go through books. |

Well, I would like to read more, but I'm always to lazy to find/get any books. It seems like I've been reading so many incredible books that its hard for me to find more interesting ones. I was desparate for a book once, and someone recommended The Golden Compass. And I hated it! And thats not the first time thats happened either. I guess I'm just really picky. |

I recently finished reading Bernard Cornwell's Warlord Trilogy, a revision of the legend of King Arthur. They are some of the best books I've ever read. They accurately depict a gritty, dirty, gory post-Roman Imperial Britain in an epic story full of scheming bishops, fanatical druids, love, betrayal, and war. Oh yes, lots of war. I highly recommend it to fans of The Lord of the Rings (which I am in the midst of). |

I love to read, but I can't that much anymore due to school. All the reading I do anymore is required reading for English, European history for Social Studies, and script and blocking notes for both of the two plays I'm managing. Ugh, no time. |

I used to read for an hour every single night before I went to sleep. Then I started getting older and getting a lot more homework, so I cut down on leisure reading time gradually. Sadly, over the last year, this time was cut down to almost nothing - I think I only read two or three books outside of school in all of 2005. And that wasn't just because of schoolwork either, it was because I stayed up late on the internet instead. I am currently in the process of trying to remedy this. |

I would like to read, but latley the computer has been cool, like since I signed on here, and homework this semester has increased by 86.52 percent, plus I am in a band and science olympiad after school, which keeps me after until four. And I haven't found a good book to read in a while. I like Harry Potter and this Pendragon series, and I just had to read this book called Alicia: My Story for school, and that was pretty good, plus a few magazines. But other tham that I don't read much. |

If you're looking for a good book try either The outsiders (if you haven't already, itseems like everyone's read that book) or Anne of Green Gables (it's cool, seriosuly). |

I used to read a lot of fiction, but I seem to have lost the ability to engage with it. Nowadays I mostly read books about things, primarily art or music and especially biographies, plus an assortment of magazines dedicated to the same. The only fiction I've read lately is Maldoror by Isadore Ducasse |

Also, if you have read the book, or are looking for a good underrated film by Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather movies), catch the film adaptation of 'The Outsiders'. It stays pretty true to the novel. Annnd...Back on topic (Toastpaint and such). |
