I think the salient sentence is this one: "He also emphasized that businesses will still be able to send e-mails but they will have to run the gantlet of spam filters."

As long as your messages don't look like spam, you don't have anything to worry about and won't have to pay the "e-mail tax."

However, my opinion is hugely biased in this matter because I am a bona fide employee of an AOL subsidiary.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm really just an independent contractor. Like the guys who built the Death Star. Image

...jeez, I hope nobody finds AOL's secret exhaust port.

Hey, you knew the risk when you took the job!

From the way the article was written, it sounds like you're only charged if you want your emails to bypass the spam filters.

Woah, that cred is mine, man. I took it, like, 3 posts ago. You'll have to duel me to the death for it.

You guys can fight all you want over who claimed it, but you're standing in the room, and it went out the window. I dove out the window to get it (so I'm where it is)... I win

Toastpaint.

When I first saw "email tax" I thought about the chain email that I used to get all the time many moons ago. I thought this was the same thing. Thankfully, it's not.

I use Hotmail so I can use MSN messenger. That way I can talk to DG and Kiki and all the other people that don't have YIM and AIM.

That's why you use an email provider with a good spam blocker.

I have always used Yahoo! for my email purposes and it works really well. I would get Yahoo! if I was you, ramrod.

Actually, an MSN account is tied to an email address, not Hotmail account. Basically, you can register a new MSN account (actually Passport, but that's a different story) with a new email address - not necessarily from Hotmail.

Exactly. That's what I do. I just use my jellobmello gmail address with my passport 'cause I got sick of jello_b_mello@hotmail.com .
