Holy cow not many things bother me more than people MAKING UP NAMES for their children. Or even worse, adding silent "q"s and "x"s to make their child "unique". NEWS FLASH! You're not making your kid unique, you're ensuring that your child gets teased mercilessly from the first day he or she sets foot on the playground. Honestly, Mickheayl? Derikqhe? Who ARE these parents? Totally right. I'm glad that my high school class was pretty much free of anyone with a wildly unusual name. There were people who always found a way to make fun of normal names like mine - I don't think I want to know what they'd have done with Mickheayl or Derikqhe. |

As a personal favor to me, please don't name your kid Tristan. Worst. Trendy. Name. Ever. |

Marshmallow Roast wrote: StrongRad wrote: Either way, I hope it's not a strange spelling of a normal name. I hate that. The kid will, too, when nobody spells their name correctly. Aww, but... Zhoii... ![]() I agree. My full first name is Johanna...my parents used the German spelling and the English pronunciation, so it's pronounced "Joe-ANN-uh" but spelled "Joe-HANN-uh". That's why I go by Anna now. -nodnod- Anyway...for girls, I like Amanda "Mandy" Giselle, Emily Ophelia, and Rya Insert-Middle-Name-Here-Because-I-Can't-Think-Of-A-Middle-Name-That-Works- With-Rya-At-The-Moment. Except not that because having the middle name "Insert-Middle-Name-Here-Because-I-Can't-Think-Of-A-Middle-Name-That-Works- With-Rya-At-The-Moment" would be horrible. Maybe Melinda...I always liked Melinda, but I don't wanna use it as a first name. I guess Rya Melinda works. For guys...Silas and Seán. Not sure about middle names for either, but if I only have one I might name him Seán Silas (or Silas Seán) and just call him Silas, because Silas is an awesome name. Also, Tristan reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh, and also The Little Mermaid for some reason. One more thing. If I do wind up naming my kid Rya, this does not count as a lame pop-culture reference. Naming your kid after an obscure cartoon character is NOT the same. It's sexier. |

No, because they end and start with similar sounds, respectively, so it would all get mushed together like Ryalizabeth. |

I've always liked the name "Anne". Pronounced like "Ann". People mess that up alot. As for a boy, I've always loved the name "Zack", or maybe "Jake". I guess I like simple names... |

>_> <_< In any case, I have found that as my name is "Zack", not "Zach", it is misspelled countless times. Which frankly, I don't understand. Who exactly would take the phonetical equivalent of "Zatch" as the proper way to spell the word pronounced "Zak"? NO SENSE IN MY BRAIN. |

I am almost tempted to breakout George Carlin's rant on names. I haven't decided on a boy's name, but if I were to have a girl I would name her Tara. |

Not son ... CHILD. Feel bad for my offspring. XD Is that how come there are a number of girls being named Kevin recently? XD About the pop culture thing: Man, I wish I was named after a pop culture person. I really dislike my real name. It's so... un-me. Too formal. (But this is the girl who wants to name her son Nicodemus...) |

Those are good. For boys? Um, I don't know. Howard? Uh...I'm Anna...though technically, my name's Johanna. Anna's just a shortening. But there IS a girl who's in some of my classes named Anna, and it's not short for anything. |

I almost wish I lived in Japan or something because then I could do crazy things with names like this and have like, crazy meanings and stuff. That kind of thing is really really interesting to me. It's harder to find that in western names. I don't really want children (I just can't handle them) but there aren't a lot of names I like, honestly... or at least that I can pull off the top of my head. Maybe Xavier? Something uncommon but not totally unpronounceable. And probably nothing totally made up. There's a bunch of names from literature that are in theory, cool with me as names, but I probably won't reach to books for that. I know my mother wanted to name a child Rudolph (from The Prisoner of Zenda) at one point in time. |
