I seem to have come to a strange realisation. Sport may be becoming to unpredictable.

Some examples?

Cricket: Australia, the so-called giant in cricket for so long, made 434 in a match yesterday. WORLD RECORD. GOOD ON 'EM. They thought they could pack up and go home, 'cos this'd be too easy.....

THEY GOT BEATEN.

NFL: Out of Nowhere, the Seahawks make the SuperBowl for the first time in yonks, and the Packers have a 4-12 season. Weird, considering the Packers made the playoffs last year.....

NBA: Even the Bucks continue the unpredictability. They beat the Spurs in 0.7 seconds of overtime remaining. How is that weird?
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME THE BUCKS BEAT THE SPURS? Coz I don't really know.

Soccer: Again, Australia, a soccer no-hoping nation ranked 45 beat England, a team ranked in the top 10 3-1.



See what I mean? What do you think about it? Had any experiences of sporting unpredictablilty yourself?

We Irish don't have that problem in the slightest - our sports performance is all too predictable. We either fall at the first hurdle, or we fall at the very last. Underdevelopment and underfunding means that we're not going to produce many Olympic-standard athletes any time soon. At Gaelic games, Cork and Kerry still dominate and always have, being the clubs with the most money.

Though not to be too emo, we did beat Scotland at rugby on the weekend. One can dream of future glories....... or not, as the case may be.



Whoa yeah, that's all I've heard about this morning. I only occasionally dip in and out of cricket, but that's one match I'm sorry I missed. But that's a one-off fluke, I'd imagine. I don't think we'll ever hear of two record-breaking innings (right word?) in one match again.

Well, maybe sports being unpredictable is kinda good. I mean, who wants to see the same teams winning over and over? Yankees I love it when a team bombs one year, then bounces back the next.

That's what make them so great. You never know what will happen, and that is why people that are number 13 seeds in tournaments have hope because you could get the upset.

Yeah, I don't think sports have gotten too unpredictable, and I do subscribe to the obvious, but still true, "if everyone who won was supposed to, there'd be no reason to play the games" statement. Though it was kinda ridiculous having 4 wild card teams win the World Series in a row in baseball before the White Sox broke the string last year, I'll give you that.

Also, the Seahawks didn't really get to the Super Bowl out of nowhere, IMO. The past couple years before that, they had a very talented team to begin with that was just missing the ingredients to get over the top, and they just happened to reach their potential.

and when was the last time that the Bucks had a player of the same caliber as Andrew Bogut

Having never been a bucks fan, I can honestly say I don't have a clue. But I am a University of Utah fan, and I know that Andrew Bogut was one of the best (if not the best) players to play for this university.

Somewhat on topic. Sports being unpredictable is what makes it fun to watch or participate in them. If your team had no chance (as in 0% actual chance) to win against a certain team, what would be the point in playing or watching that game?

The only sport I watch is WWE, and even that isn't a real sport, as most would say. It is at times very predictable. But it is starting to become random and hard to predict.
