Issac Hayes recently decided to stop doing the character Chef in South Park because it made fun of scientology. He said that they shouldn't make fun of people's personal beliefs or something like that. He's a civil rights activist and he works with South Park. He was contradicting himself. Anyone have anything to say?

I think it's kind of dumb how he never seemed to get offended over any of the other religeous things they made fun of until now.

Hopefully though, they'll do something funny to explain his missingness.

Um... it took him clear to the Scientology episode to decide that? Season 7? Holy crap... Southpark has made fun of every religion known to man. Heck, Southpark has made fun of EVERYTHING. Social issues, politics, kids, adults, races... weird that making fun of Scientology upset Hayes this much.

I love equal opportunity mockers. Those who make fun of everyone earn my respect. No agenda there.

So let me get this straight, in his mind, making fun of Mormans, Jews, Catholics and Muslims is all fine and dandy, but making fun of Scienctology is a no-no. Ok, it's official, that makes no sense. It's like, hypocrisy to the 2nd degree.

It probably put him on the outs with Hollywood. I mean, Scientology is the new fad. Give it a couple years and people won't remember what it is.

I'd say Hayes got threatened with a lawsuit or something similar from L. Ron's lawyers and, unlike Matt and Trey (who pretty much flipped them the finger with Stan's rant at the end of the episode), he decided to cut and run. It's a sad day indeed.

I'll still think he's cool, though. He sang the theme song from "Shaft", after all.

Anyway, my opinion's over here. Along with some other people's opinions (I think Sir Lemming's point is good). I'll throw a language alert just in case.

Apparently, if you make fun of scientology, Tom Cruise will ruin you.

You DON'T want Tom Cruise to ruin you.

I kinda know the issue, but not enough to say anything about it.

What I really want to say is that this should be in the Religion and Politics section.

It's not because of something Chef did during that episode (I don't actually remember him being in that episode.. The only things I remember were R. Kelly, "Tom Cruise, come out of the closet!" and Stan's "SUE ME!" thing).

I think it's just because Issac Hayes felt that making fun of scientologists was somehow inappropriate. I'm hoping he's not becoming a source of income, er, convert to them.

Hayes is a scientologist, that is why he thought it was inappropriate. Many people seem to think what will happen to the character will be determined in the Season 10 premier on March 22.

In talking to my boss about this (he's a huge South Park fan), I've since found out that Hayes is a scientologist. That would make sense...

I always thought Hayes was better than that... I mean, he did the song from SHAFT!!!

Chef says he's not offended.

Interesting new information. I especially like how Tom Cruise threw a temper tantrum to stop the episode from re-airing and it backfired. HA!
