They're not THAT expensive! WACOM's site sells used ones pretty cheap! And they last forEVER. Definitely worth the investment.

I've got a WACOM Graphire 3 since a few months. Weird thing is I went to Krefeld the day the package was brought to my house.

Costed 90 bucks. You can also get simple ones, without pressure sensitive stuff, those are about 40.
