I'm in "Exploring the Internet" at my school, and I'm having problems finding grood websites that make it through the filters. Luckily, the forum makes it through! Thats one of the many great reasons to have that rule against swear words...

I've also noticed that homestar makes it through sometimes, and other times not. Not that it would do me any good though, these compys have no sound.

TELL WHAT U THINK! aboout school filters and what cool websites you can still go to.

My high school had the worst filters, they blocked everything. I remember having to do a project on the drug ecstasy, they blocked all of the websites.

Actually, I found a way around the filters. While I could not go to a site directly, if I typed the url into something like Google and clicked the link on there, I'd be allowed to see the site.

Hm. I don't think our school even has filters. I've always been able to go on every site I ever wanted to go to. Our school is pretty small so it's easy to track down whoever messed anything up or such. And that's probably why we don't have them.

You can't do much on our school's computers. You can't even go to the Google Image search page without it saying 'OMGOMGOMG THIS GUI IST LOOKIN 4 PR0N!!1 CALL TEH COPS!1"

You can go to some filtered sites through Google, if you use the cached thingy.

Our school's filter is so powerful that it blocks Google searches that have any questionable results at all.

Filters suck... last year I was doing an editorial on Bonsai Kitten and the filters labeled it "distasteful".

Plus, some of our nice teachers give us permission to use the computers recreationally if we finish all our work before the period ends, but a lot of sites are blocked because they're classified as "games". We get H*R and BS, though. With sound.

You can get around that by going to Canadian Google (google.ca).

My school filters do NOT allow me to visit HRWiki, but it DOES allow me to iFrame crashmypc.com on my science teacher's discussion board. What a stupid filter.

My school doesn't have a filter, luckily. But unfortunately all the computers at my school have been banned from HRWiki (thanks Prescott).

Isn't bonsai kitten a little distasteful? Still very funny though? Yes :)

Entering the URL in to http://www.unipeak.com usually just ignores all school filters. Thank you proxies.

I'm sure our school has some SORT of filter. I haven't seen it in action. In Heath, if we were finished with everything we needed to do if we were in the LRC (Learning Resource Center), we could go check our e-mail and stuff. We're not allowed to IM, though.

Some ways i found to get around filters:

go to world.altavista.com and "translate" a page from say, chinese to english. it will find no chinese so it will just let it go through english

google cache obviously..

if your computer lets you get into internet options, find a free anonymous proxy and type it in the proxy settings.. it will completely bypass some filters

find a proxy page, like anonymouse.org or the-cloak.com and go through your page with that.

this page : http://www.zensur.freerk.com/ tells a bunch of things you can try. my schools filters are hard to get around though, they have like 3 filters. because of me. last year i got around the filters and told everyone how, so they changed all the filters.. lame. i made a webpage in webpage design class about school even, and it got blocked for no reason. the filters are pretty much retarded.

There's a few good proxies out there you could use.
http://www.3proxy.com is a good one I used when we were trying to get a domain name from a blocked provider.

Our school is pretty dumb with it's blocks. It blocks College Humour, but it DOESN'T block newgrounds.com

I didn't access the internet at school as much as some people here have, (especially not in high school) but I can't remember any site I've gone to ever being blocked. Of course, I'm about the furthest thing from a porn site type of guy... honest! :p

I just discovered that our school's filter labels Albinoblacksheep as "general pornography". YEESH. I hope I don't get in trouble or something- that's not right! There isn't any porn on ABS, is there?

There probably is. That's not exactly the cleanest site out there.

when i was in H.S. we had sonicwall filter or some crap like that. it was intense. it blocked homestar and somethingawful and the onion, so that sucked butt. good thing it was only installed in jr. year because i got some time in with the "evil" websites before they were blocked.

someone mentioned trying to do a report on drugs for a class. same thing happened here. except we had eMacs in the science rooms that had no filtering software, so i could reasearch crystal meth AND learn how to make it. aaall riiight! heh

Our school blocks anything with the word "game" in it, and the BBC and Homestar.

We get Bonus Stage and Keenspot, though...

I have a filter at home called "Net Nanny" And it only allows me on the internet @ certain time for a certain amount of time. @ school, we're not even allowed on the internet.
