Actually, that was one of his more understandable posts, but he did start talking about his home filter first, when this thread is about school filters, so I understand why you're confused.

Oh, and typing "@" instead of "at" doesn't save you any time. You still have to hit two keys.

My sucks has some ok filters, also, the teachers can watch any move we make if they want (with some wierd program, but only if the computer is connected to the network). We have discovered serveral ways around this. First, sites are blocked on IE, but not on netscape. We also have built several underground sites which we can IM each other from. These only avoid certian filters though. Too stop them from watching us we do the following:

1. Unplug network cable.
2. Log into computer (you wont have much programs, like no browser)
3. As soon as you see the desktop backround plug network cable back in (you now get programs back, along with so many you arnt supposed to have).

Yeah, we have filters at my school. But I haven't seen it do anything when I'm on. But they do make use this special search engine, instead of Google. They said that it filters the innaprapiate( :coachz: ) stuff on the web and stuff. Even if it is educaional. Pfft! Yeah right, no one uses it, anyway.

interseting. in jr high we had a Mac lab where the teacher could manipulate student's dektops and render the student without control if they happened to be watching you. silly me i got sent to the principal's office for looking at pictures of sniper rifles (i'm not crazy or anything i was just a kid who was curious and bored).

my friend got busted by a teacher when he was trying to install a junky lil virus he made and they revoked his rights.

lesson: they DO watch you. at least they did in my school.
in related news some kid got arrested for jerking it in our college's library because he was browsing porn. HA!

My school's cool in the fact that they let us go to all sorts of movie sites, like h*, bs, and a bunch of others. There are some websites it blocks for no apparent reason, though. I found http://pimpmyip.com/ to work pretty well... untill they blocked it at least. :-| There have been periods, though, where the block was down for some reason.

My mom works in a high school library and the district recently put in some heavy filters. The thing she complains about the most is how the school district banned all sites featuring streaming video and audio. That means she can't access he XM Radio online account among other things.
However, that also means I can use her account during her work hours.

Not that I ever do of course... -KS

Pictures of sniper rifles to the office? Pssh, I have a 007 picture of Nightfire, when you're sniping on the ledge of a castle, at people across a helicopter landing, and I have a picture of a guy holding a gun to the screen, not to mention my picture from family guy that says "Special Dad."

I may not know ways around filters, but I know ways how to erase your footprints.

1) Erase your history (Duh)
2) Change your IP adress
3) Search for pop ups that may have automatically downloaded on your computer.

I don't need this though, I don't go on any bad websites :)

The genius (yes, singular) that is my school's IT department apparently ran a script to delete everything named "firefox.exe". Yet not anything else.

Solution? Name it iexplore.exe :P

For a school with a filter that blocks all sites labeled "chat" (ex: Meebo, etc.) I find it EXTRAORDINARILY surprising that the computers have MSN Messenger installed. XD

That's because MSN Messenger is preinstalled in Windows. You actually have to download and run a special program to disable and uninstall it.

Well, we all know who secretly works for Microsoft now, don't we?

I once had to look up information on Harriet Tubman for something and the filter blocked out, like all the professional sites, leaving only the crappy Freewebs-esque sites that teenage kids throw together in their spare time with neon backgrounds and flashing buttons and false information. > <

Oh yeah. There's always that. http://nyud.net is another one. You just have to add 'nyud.net:8090' to it, for example: http://hrwiki.org.nyud.net:8090/index.php/Main_Page or http://homestarrunner.com.nyud.net:8090/fanstuff.swf.
Also, I'm surprised there are SO MANY schools that don't allow Firefox. Our school has no filters and they MAKE you use Firefox.

My filter blocks websites labeled "proxy avoidance." They're getting smarter up there... ><

I don't see why so many schools are against Firefox. I guess they're just Microsoft slaves...

Crap. My school blocks all proxies and anonymizers.

Doesn't our school block "free hosts?"

Yeah, I tried using one of those sites today and it was blocked, too.

Ha, all our school computers have Firefox installed. You know. By the teachers, not the students.

They don't have to be free to be crappy. Just look at my website. :P

there's this great website, but i can't remember what it is. it acts as a browser and it removes all traces of ever been there. although, the school admin has that scary program where they can control your computer from their HQ. so, you're going on something and suddently the mouse moves and closes the window! i heard one time this guy was sitting near the printer, going on inappropriate sites and the printer printed a detention slip!

I can get on to Homestar on some compys at school, but it is slow, on others, it dosen't matter unless you have your own headphones. It lets me check my email though.

Well, they blocked google images, but left newgrounds and things like that. For a long time, BS, Homestar, the Wiki and the Forum were ok, that is until the computer teacher caught me and said I was indangering the whole school with my going on the Forumness. Because in her eyes, everyone is out to get the school and everyone on the internet is a 4o year old stalker type dude.

But it was worth it seeing my vice principal going to Homestar runner.com :P
