Ick, it's the only Miyazaki film I don't like. I could only watch through half of it before I shut my television off.

Anyways, it's not a film, but a specific scene that I find beautiful. It's also my favorite scene in this film.

In Spirited Away, the Train scene with Chihiro and No Face riding along the ocean and seeing various things and people.

The music fit it perfectly, it had a very sad sound in it.

There are times when I will wake up in the morning and just watch this scene.

That was a Miyizaki. :p

Saddest movie: I don't know, but Animal Cops shows have made me cry. I mean it's not beautiful, it's sad.

I thought Princess Mononoke was really beautiful.

...I don't have much else to say, but it was probably the most beautiful movie I've seen.

Hero was awesome. The arrows flying at you, the fighting on the water, for a Chinese non-animated movie, it was awesome.

Okay.
Garden State.
Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind.
Princess Mononoke.
And every movie by both Tim Burton and Stanley Kubrik.
Including Batman and Beetlejuice.

I saw that, that movie was awesome! I just hated how it was all in Japenese and you needed to read subtitles.

That was a Chinese movie, not Japanese (much less Japenese). And anyway, I'd take subtitles over crappy dubbing any day.

Well, yes, but we're not exactly talking about the same class of movies, here.

Very true. I thought you meant "for EVERY movie", though... and that worried me.

Accually, I like watching subtitles in EVERY foreign movie I watch.

And sometimes for the better.

I can never forgive Disney for the horrid English actor they chose to do the voice of Haku from Spirited Away
AAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGGGLBLBLBLBLBLBLBLBLLBLBLBL!!

Funny thing about dubbing in Disney...in "Beauty & The Beast," when Lumiere (sp?) says "Zutolo [sp?], she 'as emerged!", they had to rewrite that line for the French dubbed version of the film, since "Zutolo" is apparently a French curse word....

Anyways, toastpaint, someone?

First of all, Disney had nothing to do with it.
And secondly, I think he was very good for a voice actor lip syncing to anime, or did you just not like him 'cos he didn't have a strong enough accent?

That's my angry typing. Interpret how you like.

Er.. Disney had everything to do with it. It did the U.S. distribution and I guarantee you it was responsible for the dub. It even says so on IMDb: "Buena Vista Pictures (2002) (USA) (dubbed)" (in case you're a little behind, Buena Vista = Disney = Buena Vista). Disney also did the dubbing and distribution for Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and seven other Ghibli films, though I suspect some of the older ones were dubbed prior to the deal. You can read more about it at Nausicaa.net. You learn something new every day, right?

Generally I find Disney's dubbing, at least for Mononoke and Spirited Away (I haven't seen Howl's Moving Castle yet), pretty inoffensive. Inoffensive enough, at least, that if I don't feel like reading subtitles I can watch the dubbed version without getting particularly annoyed.

Actually, I think Buena Vista does a prooty good job of doing the Dubs. The dialogue almost always makes sense, and they choose good voice actors, IMO. I actually really like Haku's voice.

I'm gonna go with Fantastia, the original. You have to pause, stop and think about it.

That was all painted. By hand. No computers. Nothing. Just paint and pencils.

Amazing.

I thought the Japanese language fit it more than an English dubbed version. And I agree, that movie was beautiful.

*sigh* The movie was in Mandarin. Not Japanese. There's a difference -- an audiable one, at that. *wanders off*

Here be a list (In no particular order)

A.I Artificial Intteligence
The Sixth Sense
Unbreakable
The Greeen Mile
Grizzly Man
Crash

Quite a few of those have CGI but I like them just the same. Some movies would just look terrible without CGI. Imagaine doing Lord of the Rings with no CGI.

You know, and I think I know why Miyazaki is so beautiful. If you look at Miyazaki's art, it's a lot more minimalistic than other anime art. He doesn't have gonzo clothing folds, minute muscle detail, or draw every strand of hair on his charatcer's heads. (Mostly. There are a few exceptions, like Yubaba in Spirited Away.) This is actually fantastic. For one, it lets the beautiful backgrounds stick out more, and secondly, it doesn't bog your eyes down. It doesn't create a dichotomy between the visuals and the story, which can happen--it lets them blend together beautifully.

I'ma gonna hafta vehemently disagree with you here. One thing kept running through my mind while watching A.I.: Booooring. I coulda just watched Pinocchio instead and gotten the same basic story without being bored to death. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that Spielberg finished it for Kubrick, but it was just long and pointless. I watch movies to be entertained, not to be given lessons in morality, psychology, reality, religion, or politics. While there are some very good thought-provoking movies out there (12 Angry Men comes to mind), A.I. ain't one of 'em.

YES! YES! YES!
Whenever I watch that scene, I want to cry my eyes out. In fact, I do. In fact, I'm crying right now just thinking of it. Oh my god, I have to watch that movie again. The most beautiful thing.

I would say Princess Mononoke, but I have seen that movie too many times, and I don't like it as much anymore. It is a good movie, but the magic is lost.
