The most beautiful movie? That's a hard one. Shyamalan has some pretty beautiful movies, even though often underrated in the public.

Did you by any chance know that even (well-made) CGI requires a lot of time and hard work, too? And that some scenes, say, in the first Matrix, (the sequels are crap) would've most likely been impossible to create without computers.
There are a lot of scenes that would've very easily work without the help of computers but there are also scenes that almost require atleast some forms of CGI'ing.

But, yes, I know what you're probably trying to say. CGI'ing everything when it can easily be hand-made is often very cheap.
Although, that can also be a positive aspect from, say, a producer's point of view; Some tv-series with limited funding and producing time get more easily produced with the help of CGI rather than having everything hand-made.

Too bad it was a horrible waste of film, and an insult to the original movie.

I think that the Fifth Element is beautiful in certain parts... certainly not the whole movie though.

Let's see, to categorize things:

Most beautiful CGI movie: Appleseed
Most beautiful cartoon movie: Spirited Away, even though it kinda sucked
Most beautiful movie-movie: I'd have to say Return of the King
Most beautiful... puppet movie?: Dark Crystal. Definitely.

I would say Princess Mononoke, but I have seen that movie too many times, and I don't like it as much anymore. It is a good movie, but the magic is lost.


You know what beautiful movie scene makes me weep? The scene in Lilo & Stitch where Lilo and Nani are sitting in their hammock, and Nani explains that Lilo might just have to go away, for her own sake... the scene itself is beautiful, but the animation is also gorgeous, with the soft light of the flames, the delicate petals of the flowers, and how human the expressions on Lilo and Nani's faces are...

That movie is so wonderful. I have to watch that again soon.

Heck yes. Heck yes at all.

I, a rather disillusioned youth, watched this on a VERY SMALL TV, and still, when that spaceship went into that big ol' hole, I was all like, "Crap".

The end was cool too.

But seriously. The PACING on that movie. Jeesh, nothin' EVER happened in that movie. First, a whole crapload of black with some (admittedly REALLY creepy) music. Then we have about 10 minutes of apes doing weird crud (featuring about 5 of those minutes of them hovering around the thingy). Then we have about 10 more minutes of satellites floating around to the Blue Danube. And then it's OK. And of course, when this story REALLY picks up, there's (yes, you guessed it, folks) an intermission.

But it was still awexome. And it was beautiful.

I loved Spider-Man. The first one, because the second one was too soap opera-ish. But I guess a lot of trilogies have to have a sucky, translating into the finale type of film.
I also enjoyed LOTR: The Fellowship, but I never saw the others. I never really cared.

Metropolis, Fritz Langs view of the year 2000 was way off, but still so cool. Sadly this was Hitlers favourite film, it also gave him a lot of the ideas that caused him to start WW2. All that aside AMAZING'd.

Not a movie, but I still need to mention the final scene of Futurama. The end scene of the final episode, where everyone's left the auditorium but Leela, and Leela asks Fry to continue playing the holophonor, even though he lost his robot hands. The music was so simple, but it was beautiful. And the animation in the hologram...it wasn't amazing art, but that was the point. And there was something beautiful about those poorly-drawn versions of Fry and Leela. It was a great ending, with the holograms kissing, then walking off hand in hand. Just beautiful. And the last line of the series is so great, before the holophonor sequence. (Fry was walking offstage, feeling depressed, and Leela says, "Please don't stop playing, Fry. I wanna hear how it ends.")

Yay.

Ah, I was just about to say Mirrormask! It really is gorgeous and really captures the feel of Gaiman and McKean's work! It definately looked like some of Gaiman's more recent comic work, just in cinema form.

Another movie that was beautifully filmed was Brokeback Mountain. If there was any CG in the movie, there was very little. Very few things can beat the natural beauty of the mountains.

What Dreams May Come had incredible art as well as being really touching and overall incredible.

As far as traditional animation goes, I'd have to go with Howl's Moving Castle or anything else from Miyazaki. Simply fabulous!

I saw Frida last night for the first time, and that goes on my list.

It's the lifestory of the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, and there were some superb scenes where her paintings were blended into the action of the film. And Salma Hayak makes a great Frida.
