I have Asperger's. With such a high IQ, I have the social and emotional skills of a dead body. Asperger's Syndrome can't stop me from being on this Forum or thinking that Shippinator Mandy is Holy-crap adorable.

Do you have Asperger's? If so, explain how it affects you.

No, I don't have it. My parents say I have ADD or ADHD or something but I think that's bogus.

Aspbergers doesn't mean anything. It's just something they gave a name. You could give the problem "sleeps late because is too tired to wake up in the morning" the name "slepistic syndrome" but it wouldn't change what it is. Everyone has these "somethings". SOme are just odd and given names. The names don't mean anything, they're really just politically correct stuff. "You can't make fun of him, he has a problem" is what it really is. It shouldn't come to "You shouldn't not make fun of someone because they have something with a name". In the end, you should not make fun of someone and yell at them because it's theright thing to do.

I don't know if I do, but my dad has a copy of some book about Asperger's. I'm worried; I think that he thinks either I or my brother has it.

I don't have it.

Having a problem of some sort doesn't exempt the person who has it from everything they do.

I think I have ADD, but I've developed tools over the years to help me cope with it.

Thinking Mandy is holy crap adorable is not wrong (mostly because she is holy crap adorable). But you don't have to express it in ways that make her uncomfortable. I have found that what works best is if I just tell a lady-type that she's pretty and leave it at that. Constant leching on a lady-type (unless she likes it) just makes you out to be a perv. (Of course, [s]I'm speaking of my own experience relating to girls over 21[/s], I NEVER LECH! NEVER! WHAT? NEVER!)

If you've never leched, then how did you find out if "it's what's best"? :p

Asperger's is a kind of condition where you're smart, but you lack social skills. I have it, because I experience this kind of thing.

I'm not sure about the smart part, but have you been diagnosed with it? Or do you just figure you have it because of the symptoms?

I've been diagnosed with it since I was 8.

Yeah.... this probably should be moved to Off-Subject.

Anyway, I used to work at a school, and a couple of the kids I was with had Aspergers. I learnt a lot about the condition from them - and how hard it is for Aspergers kids to cope with it. Especially when the other kids laughed whenever they said something inappropriate, and they couldn't understand why.

I don't believe what you're saying. I mean, you said you have Dufflust, too.

I thought I gave up the whole Dufflust thing. Do you not know that I haven't experienced Dufflust in the past 6 months?? Also, Asperger's Syndrom is what I have because I've been diagnosed with it since I was 8. The Dufflust was never existant.

I would, if I wasn't so friendly. So it's a good thing I don't have it. I'm smart without...fart...yeah....social skills....man, I understand the story of Clan now...if he's telling the truth, which I beleive him in it. Um...Cola won't though. :p Except I have only one doubt on this....IF YOU'RE SO DANG SMART, WHY DID YOU THINK ALL THE NAZIS WERE GONE!?! Okay? Okay.

No, it should be moved to "Getting to know you"

It's actually quite similar to Agent Seethroo, except he was invisible and agile while I was smart without social skills. I was gullible for COLA's Cthulhu being Christ's friend statement.

For the record, here's the Wikipedia article on Asperger's. Pretty wild stuff.

I have yet to observe any "advanced abilities" in Clan, however.

So, let me get this straight...Asperger's Syndrome=high intellect+low social skills? In other words, they just came up with a "Syndrome" for being a nerd?

Frankly, Clan, I don't believe you. I have Asperger's myself, and I have this to say.

Asperger's is not an excuse for being a jerkwad.

And Clan, you do NOT seem all that smart. If you are, you're very good at hiding it. You just can't take a hint. People have told you several times to stop doing things, and you keep doing them. It's like you think you're above the rest of us.

Not necessarily high intellect; it's more of a type of autism. WIKIPEDIA KNOWS!!!

Yep. It's on the autism spectrum. It's characterized by average or above-average intelligence, but with severe issues with social skills. We also have a tendency to take things pretty literally, and that kinda thing.

Interesting.... you seem pretty normal to me.

Well, OK, that's a lie, but you seem pretty unaffected by it. I mean, I never noticed anything a bit "off" about your social skills, besides the fact that you had absolutely no friends and nobody liked you. :P

Okay...
After reading this, I think there may be a chance, no matter how slim, that I have Asperger's. But that's if it exists...

It is characterized as an autism. Some instances of people having Asperger's Syndrome are people like :hr: who have an unbelievably loose grasp on the world around them. One part of the evidence that I have Asperger's Syndrome and why I "can't take a hint".

Aspergers exists, yeah. And as well as taking things literally, like Mandy says, Aspergers kids have problems understanding why people do the things they do, and they can't interpret the emotions of others too well. And they wouldn't understand if something they themselves say or do is appropriate to the social setting or not. So if that applies to you.....then maybe....
