| Post subject: | Homestar profiles wiped from Facebook! |
Well, it finally happened. Facebook has invoked copywrite law and disabled most of the accounts that listed their name as a Homestar runner character (Strangely enough, profiles of Homsar, Coach Z and Pom Pom still exist.) All Homestar runner groups remain, copywrited pictures included. However, other copywrited characters and real life celebrity profiles continue to exist. (Just do a search for "Master Shake", "Brian Griffin" or "CHuck Noris.") In fact there are some names which account for more profiles than all the Homestar runner profiles combined, which are still listed, despite the fact they would be more high profile and probably subject to a preliminary wave of copywrite crackdown. So, does anyone knows why Homestar runner was singled out? Has the Brother Chap taken or threatened to take legal action against Facebook/My Space pertaining to such profiles? |

Not sure about all that "copywrite" stuff...but I bet it may have infringed on some copyright laws. Feel the burn, baby! As for HSR being singled out...I don't know. |

Facebook is very funny when it comes to identity. It's almost impossible to set up a fake account without getting caught eventually, even if it's just meant as a joke. Copyright infringement might have something to do with it, but it's really more of a security measure than anything else. One thing I'll say about facebook is that it's VERY secure--nobody can read your information unless you personally approve each individual person to do so. They don't like to mess with fake accounts. If this was purely a copyright issue then every group or image relating to H*R would be deleted. A friend of mine once created a fake account for Hello Kitty and listed her as his girlfriend on Facebook. It was really funny, because he had filled out an entire profile for her, complete with fake interests, a class schedule, even a photo album. She was a very popular girl at my uni for a while, with something like 200 friends. Facebook wordlessly deleted the account about a month ago without warning. Now my friend has a picture that reads "Facebook Killed my Girlfriend!" on his profile. |

But yet Myspace still has tons of Strong Bad profiles, and a Senor Cardgage one. They really gotta fix that place. |

Yeah, but it's Myspace. ![]() Facebook isn't meant to be the same as MySpace. The whole "no fake profiles" thing is a way they try to cut down on spam. It works for the most part, too. It's a lot better than MySpace in that respect.. NO, I DON'T WANT TO SEE YOUR FREAKIN' WEBCAM!! |

*dies* Oh well. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion, I guess. Facebook is for college people, who are cool. Myspace is for middle school losers. Like me! |

Myspace is for middle school losers. Like me! I'm in college and I have both. ^^;; So does that make me cool or a loser? |

Yeah, I can understand the securtiy, that's why I like Facebook. Myspace will let anyone can join but you need a school e-mail to join Facebook. I was able to get away with it until now by using a secondary address, but I guess they cracked down on even legit address used for fake accounts. |
