That was total crap. If Katherine McPhee can deliver a horrendous performance like that and still beat out Chris Daughtry, she's going to win. Which is a shame, because American Idol has besically the same finalists every season. It would have been awesome to see a Taylor/Chris finale. Both of those guys are so different from what AI usually produces. I take sole comfort in the fact that Chris is easily going to be the most successful of anyone that comes out of this season. (if you know this week's results, you know why.) Why do you people feel the need to ruin it for the ones who like the show? |

Because those "vote for the worst" people figure that is worthy contestants get passed over to put on some of the horrible people that get put on, it's a request from the producers to vote for horrible people. I think. |

AGG! I knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread before I actually saw the programme. So that's it? Chris? Gone? This is an outrage, sir. Dag. Not cool. |

Acekirby wrote: Why do you people feel the need to ruin it for the ones who like the show? When I first read this, I thought it was just "you" instead of "you people," and that made me think. You ever sometimes know you can't fully defend your actions, but you do them anyway? I don't know; it's like that. And I guess, I've got a bone to pick with FOX... As for VFTW as a whole, the main page answers that: Quote: Why do we do it? During the initial auditions, the producers of Idol only let certain people through. Many good people are turned away and many bad singers are kept around to see Simon, Paula, and Randy so that America will be entertained.
Why do the producers do this? It's simple: American Idol is not about singing at all, it's about making good reality TV and enjoying the cheesy, guilty pleasure of watching bad singing. We agree that the bad singers are entertaining, and we want to acknowledge this fact by encouraging people to make an even funnier show by helping the amusing antagonists stick around. [some more words...] Fox doesn't like that we're voting for the worst, so they've called our website "hateful" and "mean spirited". Doesn't it seem a tad hypocritical to say that when the show has weeks devoted to making fun of bad auditions? The producers also profited from a "Worst of American Idol" DVD set last year. How can the producers let Simon mock some of the contestants but then let us be called "vicious" when a campaign exists to help those very people? It's all about spiting the people who make the show. I personally have nothing against the people who watch it. And, now, I need to know: did you vote for Chris last Tuesday, Ace? |

I tried, but the line was busy or something. All I know is that I tried a couple of times and couldn't get through. |

Argle. I'm honestly mad and suprised, because Chris got voted off. I hsve honestly no lcue on how he got into the Bottom Two. And look at the judges reactions! Chris was speechless! Paula was crying! Randy and Simon definately didn't see that coming. But he'll get a singing career anyways, you can tell. KP probably will, too.... |

Seriously, if it means that much to you, you gotta keep trying. |

You know, I would reckon that the reason Chris got voted off was because people assumed that he was going to sail through, and that they were voting for the underdogs instead. I bet anything that that's what happened. |

I think Chris is better off not winning the competition anyway. If you win, you are forced to sign a deal with the AI people and you have to do a certain amount of albums with them, and basically have little say over your career. Chris got all that recognition, but he gets to do whatever he wants now. He's better off. I kinda feel sorry for whoever wins. Elliot is from Richmond, (which is where I just moved from) and it was CRAZY ELLIOT FEVER down there on Friday. He came back to Richmond for the day, sang some songs, threw out the first pitch for the Richmond Braves game....they had streets blocked off, it was crazy! But I like the kid and he's talented, so I did toot my car horn when I saw the kids with the "Honk if you love Elliot sign"! |

He really seems to have genuine talent. It'd be a shame to see it wasted on pop music. Of course, that's really what the show seems to be about anyway.
According to Bo Bice, not winning is better than winning, for the reason you've mentioned. Granted, an automatic contract is great, but what good is it if you have no control over your music? |

Well, Elliot got voted off this week. I didn't watch it on Tuesday, but I heard Taylor blew the other two out of the water, with the only exception being Catherine's version of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. I kind of feel bad for Elliot...he didn't even lose by a full 1%. More like .03%. But that's all right, because he's still an awesome singer. I hope he goes on to do great things. In fact, all four of the finalists were really good. But now it's a Taylo/Catherine showdown in the finals. I've been rooting for Taylor since the first time I saw him (I wanted a Chris/Taylor finals), and I really hope he wins. |

You sign up because you want exposure. For every Taylor you see, there are thousands you don't see, singing in bars, busting their butts working a 40/week and trying to workin in their gigs whenever they can. Ace, Taylor did more than blow everyone away. Saying he blew everyone else out of the water is like saying we dropped a couple bombs in Japan during World War 2. Soul Patrol! |

![]() *not looking at any previous posts because I've not seen the show yet* Yeah, I don't think it's fixed either. Mainly because public voting is the best market research that the record company execs can get - i.e. the best way of knowing what kind of starlets the audience would really want to buy CDs from. |

yea, well, i hear he had recorded something during his time on the show and that it violated the contract. so either that happend or it was a mistake by the phone company. |

![]() The thing about that is that it could be construed both ways, though. 1. It's not fixed: Who in their right mind would want to get rid of Chris? The fact he got voted off was proof that it's not fixed. 2. It is fixed: The producers did not want Chris to win, therefore, they shut down his phones and caused him to lose. Eh. I don't think it's fixed. |

Dag, what a shame that Elliot got voted off, and by a fraction of a percent too. Out of the three left, I think he needed it the most. He's got real talent, but he could very easily be forgotten with the hype. Here's hoping we see more of him. ----- Anyway, it's GRAND FINAL!! week next week. Get your predictions in now! *points at poll on top of thread* I go for Taylor. Not only because I really like the guy, but because he's consistantly had some of the highest votes all through the competition. Oh.... and he officially makes grey hair sexy.
With any luck, his fans won't slack off like Chris's. |

Taylor should win. He's awesome. Not only that, but Katherine forgot the words to her song on the night she beat Chris. She should have been gone that night. Soul Patrol! |

Pretty much the only reason I was watching was because Chris is an awesome singer, so I haven't ben paying as much attention since he left. I don't really care who wins. I'm glad Chris didn't win though, otherwise he would've been sucked into a record deal with a company that makes terrible songs. He has way more potential than that. |

If Katherine wins, I will be disgusted beyond belief, then laugh because then she has to go through the uber strict contract thingy. But Taylor deserves to win. He actually has talent. |

I don;t care for American Idol because no contestants have ever had a speck of personality or musical destinction. But this Taylor guy seems different. Glad America is going back to its roots. Maybe him winning this would help the country get back into the spirit of 50's rock and roll (maybe) [probably not] {no, it won't happen} |

All the bookies seem to agree with us. Taylor's odds of winning has jumped from 7/1 at the start of the series to 4/9. It is offically a battle between the 12 year olds who will vote for Katherine, and the 20plus year olds who'll vote for Taylor. I think Destroy Us All is right - Taylor has really brought '50s R&R and Soul back into the fore, and that's the kind of records he'll be producing under this contract. So I'm not too worried about his talent being compromised - these records producers know what the audience wants from Taylor, and it's not Britney-esque slosh pop. |
