I'm sure you've seen 'em, the ones with the older guy in a suit representing PCs and the young, hip guy representing Macs. What do you think about it?

This guy hates 'em too. WARNING: LANGUAGE (drops the F-Bomb a few times)

I think they're

A. true.
and
B. hilarious. Well, some of them.

I love them. This maybe the most accurate representation of PC's and Mac's.

I like these commercials solely because the kid from Dodgeball is in them.

john hodgeman (aka "the old guy") is intentionally silly in case anyone doesn't know who he is. just wanted to mention that in case people thought he was a slow witted dull boob. check out his book The areas of my Expertise because it rocks. he is a funy dude.

i like the commercials. they entertain me a bunch.

I dig them a lot. I'm kind of a commercial junky, and these are some of the best I've seen in a long, long time.

Ick.

No thank you.

The swearing in those commercials are horrific.

So the only one I really remember is the one where the PC has a virus.

Does the average PC user really get every virus that is ever created?

Because I've been using PC for over a decade now and I've NEVER had a virus infection. If you're smart, you can avoid them all.

So far.

I've never found the "Macs don't get viruses or spyware!" argument that convincing.

Yeah, that's the only one I've seen, too. I love John Hodgman, but to be honest I wasn't very entertained.

Most people, when it comes to computers, are very, very not smart.

It's a fact that Macs, by and large, don't get viruses or spyware--Apple's 5%-give-or-take just isn't an attractive enough target for virus writers and spyware makers. However, if that number were to grow to, say, 20%, it would be a different story.

Okay, so I decided to stop being such a lazykins and realized that this was a link to a spoof, and actually watched this video. Absolutely hilarious.

And I don't really see why excessive swearing would be a problem. Are you afraid your virgin ears will explode or something? Maybe I could understand if your computer sits in the living room and your family is out there with you and you're too lazy to get headphones, but otherwise, you'll survive. Trust me.

In fact, the swearing is what makes the video even funnier for me.

I've seen that on stupidvideos, that is a pretty funny one.

I actually like macs, but I don't have one.

I think some people are confusing the actual commercials with the parodies...

Porple put up a link to the originals, if anyone wants to see those. I don't recall any swearing in those.

yeah the whole macs dont get viruses thing isn't really a matter of opinion. it's not like that. i have owned macs for the past 5 years and never had any spyware or viruses. and yeah, its because nobody writes them for macs not because they are magical or anythng. im sure if people made spyware as much for macs as they did for pcs, it would be roughly the same. but for now and in the past we have been very safe from that junk.

I guess what I should have said was that it's not a very big selling point to me, personally.

Not to mention the fact their stuff is twice as expensive.

yeah the price is a bit of a smack in the gut. the new mac mini is a step in the right direction for sure, but their prices are a little bit too much to handle sometimes, especially with Dell selling the superdiscounts on the PC side of the fence. i probably could have gotten a super spiffy pc for how much i spent on my G5, but instead i got a super spiffy mac. i guess i just feel like the price is also worth it for a computer that feels like a really good piece of hardware design, but that's probably not too high on everybody else's list.

HAR. That was great.

I've never been to fond of Macs. Mainly because everytime someone makes a computer game or something, you always get two or three people whining, "WHY DON'T YOU MAKE IT FOR MAAAAAAAAAAC..."

Plus, I've always used a PC, and although I will occasionally get a virus (from my own stupidity), everything turns out okay.

HAH! I was going to post the Ctrl Alt Del link, but you beat me to it. It's so true, too.

Because what he says is true? Arguing that Macs are better because they don't get viruses is misleading. Mac OS is just as vulnerable (perhaps more) as Windows. It just hasn't been exploited like Windows has. As their userbase grows, so will their security problems (look at firefox for a good example of this).

I also think that the whole iLife vs calculator argument is silly too. I don't buy my PC for prepackaged software, I buy it for all the other stuff that it uses (say... Visual Studio.net). If someone can point me towards a powerful development environment that runs under Mac OS, I might consider switching. But for now, my work (not my job... my work) requires that I use Windows.

It's nice to see that the disparity between Windows and Mac gaming is shrinking. Now you can play both break-out and super break-out on the mac... :) I also love the boat anchor comparison...

Too much swearing? There is no swearing in those commercials.

I'd get a Mac, but nobody ever makes software for Macs... or at least, it comes a lot later than the PC version.

Oh, and speaking of Apple, looks like they're being sued by Creative Technologies, because apparently they stole that nifty little "navigation wheel" from Creative. Personally, I'd rather have a Creative Zen than an iPod anyways.

These Apple ads are some of the most obnoxious things I have ever seen. I don't like CAD but the one posted above is right on the money. They're just pandering to the elitist Mac fanboys who think Macs are automatically superior to PCs in every way.
