I love medieval weapons. Swords, maces, flails, war hammers, lances, and of course, the halberd. Is there any weapon collectors or forgers out there? Anyone know where to get some cool weapons? Post your thoughts here.

Ah, yes, crossbows. They are pretty sweet. I have never actually fired one though. Does it have any recoil or anything? I wonder...

Flea markets are a good resource for weapons if you don't plan on actually using them.

Flails/maces (ones with chains) are awesome, though I've never seen a real one in person.

Now, that is cool stuff. I didn't know you could get cool weapons like that for so cheap! I plan to get a mace/halberd/spear. It can be adjusted to turn into another weapon with a twist and a pull. I also do like scimitars, does anybody own the replica of twinkle and icingdeath?

A friend of mine and I built a working trebuchet. We used water balloons for ammo.

im a fan of the good old bow and arrow. not very glamorous but a ton of fun to shoot and at least the non-compound ones anyway are really cool.

Seeing as how my current weapon of choice would be a baseball bat, I wouldn't mind being trained to use a quarterstave. 8 to 12 feet of hard wooden stick to beat the pulp out of your foe.

I like pre-gun weaponry and battles. I was watching some behind-the-scenes something-or-other for The Lord of the Rings movies, and someone said quite eloquently that "there's a lot less dignity and honor on a battlefield when you're able to deal death at a distance." I find that to be very true, as short-ranged weapons like the ones of old actually required you to confront your enemy--which takes a lot more moxy, IMO, looking someone square in the eye, letting them know that you desire to battle with them.

That's awesome! So did I! It was for this Science Olympiad class we had! It is about 5 feet tall, and it's an FAT(Floating Arm Trebuchet), and we creamed everyone. We called it "Chubby".

There are a few locals that make midieval weapons around town. Of course they're just meant to sit around looking pretty, and would probably break if you picked one up wrong. Yeah, I know I'd never actually use a sword in real life, but it would be fun to swing it around in the backyard and scare the neighbors a bit. I've never had any true desire for a melee weapon, but I always did want to learn how to use a bow.

Trebu-yay! I love catapults and trebuchets and all those other "chuck things far" machine. But has anyone ever tried building a mangonel? They're sort of like a cross between the two, and just as awesome.

I'm a nerd. When you mentioned the claymore, the first thing that came to mind wasn't the sword, but a recent manga that just came out. Doy.

I don't know about crossbows, as I've never even handled a traditional recurve, but I do have a nice modern-day compound bow.

When I was off in Italy over the Chirstmas holidays, I found this great shop that sold swords and stuff, and I stayed there for ages, my Mum and sister had to practically drag me out of there. They even made replicas of the swords used in The Lord of the Rings!

There's a shop in a mall in my city called The Cutting Edge that sells swords, maces, and knives of all sorts. They've got a Claymore on the wall that's longer than I am tall (I'm 6' 3")
They specialise in Katanas, Wakizashis and Ninjato. These things aren't cheap, though. Way more money that I'd want to pay for a glorfied cabbage-choper.
I spend all my disposable income on computer hardware. You know; Gigabit LAN routers, pure copper heat sinks, windowed aluminum cases, lazer mice, SLi rigs, cold cathode tubes... that sort of thing.

I'm a big swords collector. I don't have a lot of money, so I only have five swords right now, but I love them. Four are katanas, since, if you can't tell, I'm way into Japan and such. The other is a European Longsword - and by longsword, I mean 5 feet long. It's huge, I don't even want to try to swing that thing.

Right now, I've really got my eyes on this.

Unfortunately, that's ridiculously expensive, so I'll be a while waiting yet. But the blades are of unbelievable quality by every account! A review of just the wakizashi said this:

Not only did I go to state, I went to nationals in '98 as team captain of the team from Davis High School in Utah. It was in Grand Rapids Michigan that year. And no, there isn't a SciOly thread yet.
