Root beer is soooooooooo good. Personally, I think it has sort of a "muddy mint" flavor.

And if you don't like eating food made from trees, you must be one of those insane people who hate cinnamon rolls or maple syrup. In which case, you must see the error of your ways. BRING OUT THE COMFEY CHAIR!

You have been able to get A&W for some time in the north. Sainsbury's carries it as well as some Tesco stores there. They also have Dr. Pepper in the north, if you are into that as I am. Checked the Pepsico web site (who now owns A&W) and the franchises for Ireland are owned by Whitbread in the UK in terms of opening a restaurant. You might want to contact them!

Finally done with traveling, I returned to Cork to learn from my wife that it is now possible to buy A&W root beer in Cork. I have never before seen root beer of any sort in Ireland before. Now if only they bring an actual A&W to Cork, and I will be in permanent bliss.

The shop is called Rocomore, in the Savoy Shopping Centre on Patrick St. It is the first shop on the left from the Patrick St. entrance.

I find it interesting to note that in Ireland it is nearly impossible to find root beer, while the referenced wikipedia article states that in Britain, root beer outsold colas until the 60's.

Bah, it's nearly impossible to find anything in Ireland. But now that we're entering the brave new age of the faceless multimarket, I suppose that'll change. The only Sainsbury's I know is in Belfast, but there are a few Tesco's cropping up around the place, right enough. And now with all this talk of root beer, I want to try it. I'll see if they have it, next time I'm in town.

Hooray for root beer! Hooray for Barq's actually. It's good! But then I'm from New Orleans, so I might be biased. DYK: Barq's is the only root beer with caffeine.
