Aside from some really good graphics and a couple of neat ideas, the game just never really impressed me. Funnily enough, the graphics never really impressed me when stacked up with other SNES games like Yoshi's Island or Kirby's Superstar--they just looked muddy, smudgy, and ugly. On the other hand, it's enjoyable. Well, I have heard that it's one of the greatest games of all time. But I'll have to make my own opinion on the VC. But those graphics look great compared to Mother 2. Mother 2 barely looked any better compared to Mother on the NES. |

But that's part of its charm! It's meant to look simplistic. It's supposed to be fun! And it is. Earthbound FTW! |

Indeed it is, though I don't have the cartridge or my SNES anymore. It's the first VC game I'm downloading without one bit of doubt. |

Okay, I already bashed Super Metroid, so I'll keep my opinions on Mother 2/Earthbound to myself. On a completly unrelated note, I was gazing through a game store yesterday when I found a copy of Steel Empire for the GBA. SE was a game that originally came out for the Genisis and was pretty much ignored at the time. It's a great, original side-scolling shooter. If you get the chance, try it out. Yeah, I know this topic is supposed to be about Nintendo but the GBA release gave me a loophole. Toastpaint. |

I thought the same way for a minute, but then I remembered about the L and R buttons, which made swinging around with the beam a child's play.
Anyways, does anyone remember the Ninja Gaiden series? I used to play those three games all the time... They had awesome anime-style cutscenes and an interesting story. The gameplay was fun and the soundtrack is amongst the best I've heard on the Nes. The third game in the series was meh compared to the others, though. They should have another game in the series. And I'm not talking about the totally unrelated Ninja Gaiden games on the Xbox. Anybody remember those games? It seems like whenever I try to talk about Ninja Gaiden anywhere on the internet, everyone thinks I'm talking about the Xbox games. |

I know about them, but I never played 'em. Sorry to jump off that topic so quickly, but you know what I think is just a plain underrated series? Kirby! Kirby's got great games, man. They graphics are always good (I still like to just look at Kirby 64; some of that game almost looks next-gen in places), the music is awesome, and the level design is great! Kirby's also got an awesome, awesome superpower. The problem is, of course, they're generally too easy, which is really a shame, because they're great while they last. My favorite Kirby games are Kirby's Dreamland 3 (R.O.B.s and Donbe and Hikari and Metroids ahoy!) and Kirby 64. |

In my opinion, the Snes has got to be the best game console ever! Some many good games! Super Mario Rpg, Donkey Kong Country 1, 2, and 3, Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, the list goes on. Ah, good times.

My favorite Kirby games are Kirby's Dreamland 3 (R.O.B.s and Donbe and Hikari and Metroids ahoy!) and Kirby 64. Kirby is one of my favorite game series ever! I really like Super Star because the powers could do a lot more than they can now. Like the cutter ability. Now it can only throw disks, but in SS you can slash with your cutters like a sword, or even lift them high into the air with your cutters and slam them into the ground with a wave of energy that can kill the foes nearby. And it introduced Meta-Knight. That makes it awsome. But I never really got to play Kirby's Dreamland 3. I guess I'll have to get it on the VC. It's coming out on the VC right? |

Anyways, Kirby's games are great in so many ways... I'm personally a KSS person as I have said quite a few times already, but pretty much every Kirby game is awesome. I don't know what makes them so good, but they just have that special charm so many of Nintendo's games have. As for music, all Kirby games have some good music, but I think that Kirby 64 has my two favorites: the O² theme and the track playing in the factory level in the end of Shiver Star. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to a midi of the former one right now. |

It was a major source of frustration for me throughout the late '80's because it continuously kicked my butt...and then laughed at me. That was the first game series I can remember that had an actual storyline. |

I L-O-V-E the Kirby series! X3 Superstar is by far my favorite, followed by either Amazing Mirror or Dreamland 3, but I seriously love every one of them. I think it's because they're all so non-linear compared to a lot of other platformer games... there are tons of secret paths, hidden levels and little unlockable things like that, meaning the games are more about exploring and messing around with stuff rather than just getting to the end and going to the next level (and Amazing Mirror doesn't even have any "levels" at all. The whole game is just one huge dungeon that you're totally free to explore. Awesome.) And yes, they all have great music. I love the fact that Canvas Curse's ENTIRE soundtrack is pretty much nothing but remixes of songs from past Kirby games (including really obscure tracks from KDL3 and K64 that I honestly thought I'd never hear again). Great stuff. |

I love Superstar, too, but there are parts of it that just rub me the wrong way. However, there are some things it has that are pure awesome. 1. Gorgeous graphics. 2. The Great Cave Offensive is an awesome game. The problem is, compared to it, the other games are a bit lackluster, which is one of my problems with this game. Not enough meat on any of the other bones! 3. COMPUTER VIRUS FTW. Best. Boss. EVER. 4. The idea in Milky Way Wishes was pretty cool. 5. Powers are HUGE. Now, my slight beefs... 1. No buddies like Kine and Pitch? Booo! 2. How come Kirby's rock power can turn him into statues of Mario and Samus, but not Link? Double boo! (Ok, maybe I'm just being silly, but...) 3. The Great Cave Offensive and Milky Way Wishes were appreciably large, but the rest of the games just felt flimsy and tacked-on. I mean, I like them there, but they needed more spice. |
