As you probably know (me slamming my own nation. Stephen Colbert Lite), unless you're a stupid ignorant American from the backwoods of Arkansas [/foo-foo-"I'm Better than you"-European]. The world cup is coming up. It's the Olympics except no one cares about it... oh wait it's the same. This is what all those hours of buyinfg minivans and having weird suburban ladies in their forties driving me around were for. [/sarcasm]

U S A!!! U S A!!! USA!!! :usa:

TELL WHAT U THINK

Two things.

1.) This belongs in Off-Subject.
2.) Brazil and Germany are the teams to beat.

Agh. The World Cup is taking place in the same time zone as me. Which means there won't be anything else on the television for a month. Stupid Germany, and stupid.... Ireland's proximity to Germany.

I suppose I'll resign myself to watching a few games though. I'm reliably informed (by my nephew) that Argentina is a team to watch out for this year, so I'll watch a few games of theirs.

And I'll watch Brazil, oc - but mostly because of their usually shameless grabbing of any free kicks and penalties they can get. Like falling down screaming in agony if someone from the other team just brushes past them - that sort of thing. They're hilariously shameless, that Brazilian team. :)

It's definitely soccer. But that's because I'm to lazy to say "American Football" Football is the brown thing. Soccer is the black and white thing.

It doesn't really matter, it's a cultural thing - but the proper name is Association Football. It's called soccer in America and football everywhere else, but it doesn't matter as long as we know what you're talking about.

Of course, we Europeans like to be snobby to Americans who call it soccer - but then again, we like to be snobby about everything you people do. :p

Brazil or Germany is probably going to win this year, but I'm rooting for France, England & the USA.

Oh, and I call it soccer. :p

You are the 28th ranked team in the world. The Aussies are stuck in Brazil's Group. You won't be going far. The US will go farther than you.

Right now Germany is leading Costa Rica 3-2.

Germany gave up two goals to a less-than-impressive-offensively Costa Rica.

Can't say they're a favorite to win this year.

Oh, the terror has begun already?

Seriously, if I see another England flag again, I will kill.

Wait, scratch that. There would be too many murders.

(We call it football here.)

England is totally going to kick Paraguay's butt. I think they'll win their group, & then beat Ecuador in the Last 16, but Mexico will beat them in the quarter finals.

I made my own predictiation bracket:

Germany will make it to the final match, but Brazil will beat them.

It's football. Not because that is the 'Origional English' way of saying it, instead of the 'Vomitted Out English' version, but because soccer is a retarded word.

And I hate football. It is chavish.

Ian, I really don't agree with some of them. I mean, Brazil's a definite, but Japan? 2nd in Group F? Come on? Australia would take that spot, if they can get wins over Japan and Croatia. And Sweden? Jeez.

I think that a draw against Brazil would be a good as a win.

OK, so maybe Sweden won't make it, but neither will Paraguay. In fact, I'm not really sure who will take 2nd in Group B.

Ahem. We are 42nd. AND WE DREW WITH THE 2ND BEST. It could just as easily happen to the Brasillians.

Y'know what I'd like to see?
Trinidad and Tobago winning a game. It'll never happen though.

42nd? That's still quite an underdog. And Gravy meant that Australia was the 28th seed; the US is the 9th. But if you guys do make it to the finals against Brazil, you will be screwed.

I do agree that we will be screwed if WE ACTUALLY make the Final.

But, Even if we get as far as the Semis, I will be extremely proud.

If the US even makes the QFs like in '02, I too will be proud. They're ranked 5th internationally, & 9th seeded in the Cup.

Argentina v Ivory Coast in an hour. I'm predicting a 2-0 win for the Argentines. Mind you, I don't know Ivory Coast's form as much as I know Argentina's.

Germany scored a very nice First Goal last night - had a great curve to it. They'll make it past the group stage, I'm almost sure of that.
