We don't play them again, at least not for now.

Yeah, you guys are screwed against Italy. We were lucky to tie them.

So the Round of 16 has begun. Germany beat Sweden 2-0. today, & Argentina beat Mexico 2-1.

Here's my revised bracket (which I made before the Argentina game):
Image
Germany is still going to win the next round. Heck, they might even beat Brazil in the final, if they get that far.

To all peoples who are watching the World Cup:

Who are (or were) rooting for in the '06 World Cup?

Me, like everyone else in the U.S., was rooting for the U.S. team. When they lost, I rooted for England. But now that they just lost to Portugal, I'm gonna root for Italy, 'cuz my ancestor were from Italy.

I've been rooting for France all the way. Too bad they have to face Brazil in the QFs today. These 2 haven't faced one another in the Cup since France beat Brazil in the 1998 final. Then Brazil won their 5th World Cup in 2002.

Now both teams won their Round of 16 match with a score of 3. Brazil shut out Ghana, while Spain scored one goal against France. So it can go either way.

MERGE'D!

I'm pullin for Germany. Woohoo!!

We watched the game in the conference room yesterday. It started out with 6 or 7 of us in there, and ballooned until we had something like 60 people in there. It was an awesome game, too.
I learned something from the Brazillian fan that was in the room. Apparently, most of Latin America hates Argentina. I was not aware of that.

It was kinda cool, though, to see people from different races, nationalities, etc, all excited over the same thing. I'm not even sure how many countries we were all from. For sure, though, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Germany, Great Britain, Iran, Mexico, Pakistan, Thailand, South Korea, and the United States were all represented. I believe I've found the answer to "how do we unify the world?"... The answer, of course, Pizza and World Cup.

England are out. Rooney is an idiot. The ref was biased and horrible. We needed Beckham to not get injured. That was Sven's last match. I can't say that i feel terribly emotional about the whole thing.

Refs are still horrible.

Ian, looks like France pulled it out.

Yeah, I just watched the last half-hour of the game. WOOHOO!!!!! 1-0, but with lotsa yellow cards. The ref made a horrible call in the 87th minute & gave Louis Saha one.

I have a new avy for obvious reasons. ;)

Germany will not lose. To me, they are playing the tournament's best football. Italy, on the other hand, are a bunch of cheating lowlife scumbags who dive to win everything. I hope Germany kicks the crap out of them.

And yes, Brazil losing to me is the sohock of the tournament, other than Ghana beating the Czechs and the USA (lol, 5th place).

Your guy fell right in front of him, the Italian player had no time to react. Australia screwed themselves.

He did not fall. Lucas Neill made a perfectly good tackle and he fell over him. The ref's just too freaking stupid to see that he fell over. I also saw on a World Cup show that in am Italian newspaper, Gattuso said that it was never a penalty.

EDIT:
The World Game wrote:
"Italy's method is rooted in pessimism. Ask an Italian whether the glass is half-full or half-empty and he is liable to reply that it is poisoned."

;) Oh and read this.

Are you KIDDING? This was Ghana's first World Cup. And Brazil whooped them in the Round of 16. 3-0.

That penalty was worth a PK. The US probably would have beat Ghana if it wasn't for that call.

Well, we all know that the USA men's team suxx0rz tremendously, at least since 1994, when we hosted & made it to the QFs. But our womens' team kicks @$$. Anyone remember the Brandi Chastain incident?

Teh Socceroos still play dirty. They might as well wear yellow head to toe. :p Besides, they've only been in TWO World Cups. We've been in 8.

Yeah. I even saw that. WOW.

So, let's just forget about it. Our favourite teams are gone, so we pick new ones. I have faith in the hosts. They've been playing well.

Yeah, I won't be surprised if Germany wins, but I've been rooting for France from the beginning.

SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!

France & Italy face off in the FINALS in Berlin, with Germany & Portugal playing for 3rd place.

This makes the second straight time France has beaten a Portuguese-speaking team, and Zidance scored the deciding goal in both games!

Yep, this is turning out to be a pretty straight-forward, no-surprises World Cup.

Though maybe it is a surprise that Germany was beaten at that stage. Just because. That was a great match. I enjoy watching Saxons get Puh-OWN'd. ;)

This is only because Germany didn't have the strength to last 2 more minutes, and Henry clearly dived. Watch the replays again. I am sure you will believe me. But since they're the only 2 left, I'll go for France.
