Post subject: Have you ever cried to any films, books, or form of art?
PostPosted: Thu Jun 29, 2006 3:42 pm
It's quite simplistic. All you have to do is mention what it was and the scene specificly if you want too.

Grave of the Fireflies (film)
At the ending. If I stated why I would be spoiling it. All I will say is that I will never forget the name Setsuko. And to be truthful, I didn't cry at first. I only felt this deep pain in my heart that left me sleepless. I then cried two days later.

Spirited Away (film)
During the near end of the film. It's the scene when Chihiro and No Face are riding in the train along the ocean. I think it's the music that makes me cry. But there's something with No Face that reaches me to a personal level.

Omohide Poro Poro (film)
I really don't know why, but for some reason I feel a bit sad at the ending. Even though the films ending is very lovely.
Perhaps it has too do with a joyful sadness.

A Little Princess (novel)
I always feel sad with Sara when she learns that her father is dead, but it's even more saddening when the reader finds out that she's going to be treated very poorly for the next few years.

A Series of Unfortunete Events (novel series)
Book 12, near the end. When the Baduliare children burn down the Hotel and decide to give in a join Count Olaf, it really makes my heart sink. And even more so when the book hints at how the children never see various faces in the hotel ever again. It can only mean a few things: 1. The Baduliare Children are taken into safety from someone, and never re-visit their old home. Or 2. The Baduliare children die. The latter seems more possible.

There are other saddening moments in the novel, but I have to recollect them.

There's more things, but these are my best memories. I'll post more when I remember them...

I know this has already been posted somewhere.
It's called Books, Movies, and other Media that Makes You Cry, or something like that.
I've been looking for it for a while.
I'll edit this when I find it.

Movie: The Sea Inside. Wow, did I cry at that movie. The fact that it's a true story makes it all the worse. One scene in particular left me sobbing. The movie is about a man who wants to die with dignity because he is quadrapalegic(sp?). The current laws in Spain didn't allow people to commit suicide so his nephew fought for him in court in various scenes. The one scene in particular that made me cry was near the end, where the nephew pushes his uncle's wheelchair into the ambulance car, and after that he realizes that he will never see him again. The ambulance car drives off and, the nephew, sprints off after the ambulance with all his heart to protect his uncle. Alas, it is to no avail, as the car drives off and leaves him sobbing.
Book: Because of Winn-Dixie. It would spoil it to tell you.
Movie: The Omen, original version. These were tears of a terror which can hardly be conceived, and, if you follow the Christian religion, like myself, it makes it even more difficult because all the events in the movie could very well occur one day and may be transpiring as we speak.

Me too! Escpecially when watching the movie.

*SPOLER WARNING*

Eight Below(movie)
Gah, this movie was sad. The thing that upset me most was when Old Jack and the other dog (I think it was Shorty...?) died. I couldn't get over it. It took me right out of the film. Especially at the end, when Old Jack's body had been dug up and was laying by a cross with his leash wrapped around it. I have always had a place in my heart for old dogs. And when the oher dog died, that really hit me. He was jumping around, barking at the northern lights, something he loved. Chasing lights was also something that my dog loves. He was jumping and then the cliff gave way, and I watched in horror as he tumbled down, where he died. Also, when Myah (Sp?) had been bitten by the seal thing, and limping around, but collapsed on the ground. I thought she was dead and was crying untill I saw her blink open her eyes when the owner kissed her head. And she lived. Then I started crying more. :|

All Quiet on the Western Front (novel & movie)

The ending was the saddest part. He had been having internal conflicts
throughout the whole book. He didn't want to go to war and kill, but he didn't want to have to flee and be a coward. He has to go tell his friends' parents that their sons were dead. He was never really joyful or happy. In the end, he is doing one thing that brought him happiness; drawing animals. A mockingbird was flying over the battlefeild, and he looked up from his trench to capture the bird, the mistake that caused his death. He was scribbling on the pad, and unknowingly stood too far up, and was shot in the head. Later that week, the peace treaty(or whatever it was) was signed and ended the war.

As you can see, I don't cry that much. :\

EDIT: woah, long post.

Wait...what IS so sad about Because of Winn-Dixie? It's bugging me.

SPOILERS

If I recall, Winn-Dixie only got lost for a short while, not killed. But I have a bad memory.

Also, the discussion she had with her father, with the rain all dripping down their cheeks, i.e."No! You never try. You just let Mama go." And the part where her dad finally tells Opal the tenth thing about her Mama is also what made me cry. The very, very, ending is happy, though.

Wait. Didn't he lean on his own gun and accidentially shot himself? I saw the movie in History, and I read the ending in the book. It seems more likely that way.

Anyway, I really don't know what made me cry. I suppose some music I listen do does that. Particulary Thursday and early MCR (for some reason).

I have never cried during a movie. The closest I ever came was in Return of the Jedi. When Yoda died, I was an inch away from crying. Yeah, I know I'm a nerd.

I almost cried at the end of a play, Blood Brothers.

In the beginning, it shows the story of Mrs. Johnstone - a woman with a handful of xhildren who's husband left her. She can afford to raise the next baby she is having, but it turns out she's having twins. Mrs. Lyons, her employer, always wanted a baby but could not have one...so they make a deal that Mrs. Johnstone will give her one of the babies. She does. Almost eight years later, the children meet up. Eddie, who was raised by the rich Lyonss, moved away. Mickey, the other twin, moves too, and so does Linda, the twin's female friend. They spend childhood together, and their late teen years until the day where Mickey and Linda get married. Eddie is off in the University. Mickey, who is in need of money, finds Sammy, his lost older brother that went into the wrong crowd and now robs places. In a hesit at a bank, Sammy shoots a man and the two run back to the Johnstone house. Mickey gets arrested, dunno what happens to Sammy. Anyways, Mickey has to take depression pills becaus he is sad, and he gets out for good behavior later. When he gets out, he thinks that Linda had cheated on him for Eddie(because Mrs. Johnstone told him.) Mickey takes a gun found in the house, and goes to kill Eddie. There, the twin's mother comes in and says that Eddie is Mickey's brother and explains the situation. Mickey then says that he could've been Eddie, and shoots Eddie, killing him. At the same time, the cops that were nearby shoot Mickey, killing him. Mrs. Johnstone is crying as the rest of the people arrive on the scene - Linda, and the Lyons. The scene goes back to the funeral(the scene at the beginning), and they end it with a touching song.

That was really sad, but I held myself together.

"tell me this is not true
Two clowns in the limelight...
Tell me this is just a dream
Two clowns who couldn't get their lines riiight.....
Say it's just a dream
Say it's just a scene
From an old movie from long ago...
From an old movie with Mariyln Monroe...."

Not the whole song.

Marilyn Monroe was a recurring song throughout the play, which goes basically like this.

{sometihng} Marilyn Monroe
And we went dancing{or no more dancing}{or His mind's gone dancing}
{something} Marilyn Monroe
{the dancing}

...but I've probably forgotten all of the Marilyn Monroe songs.

I've cried for a few films and books. Schindler's List is one that makes me cry almost everytime I see it, though--the part where Oskar Schindler breaks down because he could have saved one more person but didn't.

The Rugrat's Movie- During the part where Tommy's paret's are giving Dill more attention, and Tommy's all sad.

LOTR: The Return of the King-When Frodo tells Sam to go home because Gollom made up lies about Sam.

I'm a loser.

EDIT: I also cried during the last episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I'm such a loser.

You know Ninty, I have to admit that I nearly cried at the end of 8 Below too. Then I remembered I was on a plane full of people, and there was no sound. It was not easy keeping that salt water in my eye though.

I cry all the time. Because I'm a girl. Ha.

The most memorable, though, is There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom by Louis Sachar, which I read when I was a kid. Read it. DO IT!!

I haven't cried for this book, but it is really sad. It's called Alan & Naomi, and I read it in 6th grade. Basically, it's during WWII, when a French girl comes to the US scarred from the war and Alan gets her to stop talking through her doll and become more confident. However, Alan gets in a fight with Joe, and everything he worked for is undone and unredoable. At the end, Alan goes back near an airplane landing strip in the rain and cries in the grass.

I'm pretty sure what I said was right.

Except in the movie it was a butterfly, not a bird.

Uhm..

Donnie Darko: I watched this in the dark on my computer for the first time alone. There's just something about that movie that.. I can't describe it but it really messes with my emotions.

Ghost Ship: I really, really hate this movie. Why? I first saw it when I was like.. 12 or 13 when I first saw this. My friend had it on DVD and we were over at hers for a birthday sleepover and thinking we were cool, we watched it. I. Was. Horrified. You'll know what I'm talking about when I mean that the first 10 minutes is disturbing (the rest of the movie was dull though). I didn't sleep for days after that movie and had nightmares for weeks about it.
My point is that almost 3 or four years on, I watched it at my (different) friends house and I think I cried hysterically during that part. I guess it's because I get too emotionally involved with things..

The Fox and the Hound: Seriously.. when the old lady has to leave Todd in the wild.. the bit with the music and her little speech and.. All of it combined never fails to have my sobbing hysterically. A disney film isn't meant to make you cry!

I have a similar story, except it's at the end of Majora's Mask... I don't know, somehow Ocarina of Time was a better game, but I felt more emotionally involved with Majora's Mask... I cried when I saw the Deku Butler with his son... Part of it was having passed by it so long ago in the game, so early in the game, and just passing it off as nothing, and then revisiting it and finding out what I'd actually seen.

I cried at (Truman Show spoilers)
Quote:
the scene in The Truman Show where Truman's escaping on the boat. You've got this guy who knows his life is a sham, who's never known reality, and this is the one chance he'll ever have to escape his fake life, and they were trying to stop him... I cried even worse because of how they were trying to kill him and he just tied himself to the boat... part of that was emotional because the people up in the control room were all on his side except for Christoph, and they were all telling him not to go through with it.

Can't remember what else, although there have been a couple of other occasions...

I always cry during The Lion King, when Mufasa dies.

Also, I cry when Charlotte dies in Charlotte's Web. That is SO depressing.

I was sobbing when that duck died in Chinese Cinderella. It was quite a while ago, but I remember, I was up all night reading it, i didn't get any sleep until I'd read the whole book. I miss those days...

But yeah, I cry during everything. I'm a softy.

Everything is Illuminated.

Go see it. Now. It starts out funny, but then it becomes dramatic.

My Dog Skip, the movie.

When I was younger, I felt sorry for a few too many things. Two things in the movie that I felt sorry over were:

Quote:
When the father gives the boy the stuffed dog, since they couldn't afford a regular dog, and how he said he had held onto it since his childhood. The boy didn't fully accept it though, so that made me feel a little bit sorry about the father's attempt to make the boy happy.

And the ending:

Quote:
After all the happy moments (and sad moments) with Skip, he is seen laying on the bed all sad when the mother passes by. Then, the boy narrates how he got a letter later on saying how Skip had died. That gave me quite a few tears for a few minutes.

That's about it, though.

I know that I have cried, or at least teared up, at a movie. I just don't remember which one.
