For those of you who like Mozilla Firefox, just thought I'd let you know that version 2.0 (codename Bon Echo) will be going into Beta this month. No definite release date yet, but I have it on good authority that July will very likely see Bon Echo Beta 1 roll out.

I've been using Bon Echo Alpha 3 for a few days now and it's really quite stable. (Not officially stable, of course.) The integrated spellcheck and the improved anti-phishing is really nice. Still some bugs, and there's some features that aren't hooked up yet, but all in all it's looking very good.

The interface hasn't changed, it's still the familiar Firefox UI, but the logo is a blue "globe" ball without the Firefox mascot: That's so people don't confuse the Firefox icon with the Bon Echo icon when it hits Beta. If you ran any of the Deer Park pre-release builds, you've seen this icon before.

Just for a lark I gave the Firefox 3.0 (codename Gran Paridiso)Alpha 1 build a shot. Well, that one turned out to be totally unstable, buggy as hell. Stay away from it, it's not ready from general use.

Sounds awesome. Of course, as a rather casual internet person, I'll wait until it is officially ready for public use, but it's good to know that it's pretty stable already.

I'm using it right now. Don't see any differences between this and Firefox, except for how you can't use GreaseMonkey. :-|

Um, the tabs are different now (they have "close" buttons on then, and you can right-click the tab-bar to re-order the tabs and give other commands), the extensions manager is now integrated with the themes manger & the dictionary manager and is re-named "Add-ons", there's integrated web-form spellcheck with check-as-you-type (add-a-dictionary is in there, but it's not hooked up yet. You have to add dictionaries manualy. It only comes with English/ United States right now. However, the same dictionary files that are available for Thunderbird work with Bon Echo.)
^
That's the nutshell version of what's new.

3.0 is set to feature cascading Live Bookmarks and possibly dragable bookmarks in the main UI (not just the Bookmark manager page), but it's early days yet for 3.0.
