I saw it last night. I thought it was okay, I guess. For one, the pacing was bad. It's 2.5 hours and boy, does it FEEL like 2.5 hours. I got restless about halfway through, which is something I hardly ever do, not even in long movies.

Depp was good, but not as brilliant as he was in Pirates 1. I felt the writing was loose and not as tight and clever as it was in the first. And WAY too much plot.

Anyway, the end did get better, as Danielle said, but overall I'm kinda sad I paid $7.50 to see it.

I'd say that this movie was definitely worth the ticket price, it kept me entertained the whole 2.5 hours through.

I saw this on Wikipedia and was excited:

Wikipedia wrote:
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest grossed an estimated $55.5 million on its opening day, setting the record for both the largest opening day and the largest single day gross of all time. If it maintains its current pace, it is expected to gross between $135-$145 million for the weekend surpassing Spider-Man (film) to become both the biggest opening and biggest overall weekend gross in movie history.

I just got back from seeing it if it were 24 hours ago. I thought it was pretty good. Granted, the plot is more than a bit confusing but that may have more to do with me not ever seeing the first one >.> Overall, I liked it. My one other qualm was the abrupt ending. However, Mr. Davey "totally not Cthulu" Jones and his crew looked amazingly stunning.

...okay, they're making a third movie right now that we know for a fact Jack Sparrow is in. I think he didn't get (spoiluuurz!) eaten by the Kraken.

On a different note, they gave a certain guy that pops in the end lighter hair. It's odd.

Yeah, if you watch the 1st one this movie will make a lot more sense and be a lot better. It's been out for a while so you should be able to rent it anywhere.

And the second one is like "OHH, KIDS LIKE MONSTERS! LET'S ADD MONSTERS!"

Here's a tip: Actually see the second movie.

The first one is much more than that, sure, there's a good chunk of action, but most of it is about the plot and not what you said.

And yeah, like they're aiming this stuff at kids. There's way more rum consumption thatn probably any other pirate film.

I completely agree with the noid. "Come on kids go get some rum at the snack bar!"

To add to the rum thing, Jack is drunk in at least two scenes(I can only remember one where it was painfully obvious, though - the one where he was hitting on Elizabeth), so....

That is known as marketing, and most movies (and eveything else) do that

Anyways, I thought this movie was simply amazing. Johnny Depp is amazing, and my dad read that when he made the character, he imagined a feminine Keith Richards, who is actually going to be in the third movie. Also, people, give Orlando some credit. Get past the stereotype of him just being an attractive guy they stuck into the movie. He's done some okay acting. Not the best, but not horrible either. I'm really looking foward to the next movie.

I also found this comment surprising. I'm a guy, but it seems most girls find both Depp and Bloom to be attractive.

If you don't mind, who are you attracted to?

At this point I think you're just being contrary for the fun of it.

For the record, I think Johnny Depp is hawt. But I am a lifelong member of the Orlando Bloom is a Girl Society([s]formerly the LOTR Haters Club[/s]You didn't hear that).

The awesomeness still fills me.

Not. Here. On. Opening. Day. I saw the premeire (sp?) at midnight.

Davy Jones was definetely not as scary as Barbossa (sp again?). I was with this one girl I knew and she was like, "I hope Jack Sparrow doesn't die. I don't care if Will dies. I don't care if Elizabeth dies. They could kill anybody but Jack Sparrow and I wouldn't care." Oh well.

Now I'm dying for next summer.

I just got back from seeing it. It was grawesome! Great special effects, tons of humor, but the plot was kinda hard to follow.

Guys can you not ruin the ending for those of us who haven't seen it? Keep the spoilers to yourself. I would like to know what happens after I see the movie.

i just got back from the theater literally 2 minutes ago and it was ok i guess. Let me start off by saying that Orlando Bloom and Kira Knightly are terrible actors, i actually laught at them some parts, the other actors are good. What i liked was how the theater shook when the summoned the Krakken and when cannonballs where fired.

Maybe we should make a separate thread for people who saw the movie.

Maybe you should know better than to post on threads like this before seeing the movie yourself. :)

Well, actually, people just need to warn people before they post spoilers.

Or we can do just an all around spoiler topic, like the one we did for HP6.

So, spoilers below.

Of course Jack doesn't die. I'd bet he fights his way out of the Kraken. As for the Black Pearl...

And Davy Jones was much scarier than Barbossa in my opinion. Sure, Barbossa can turn into a skeleton, but Davy Jones has tentacles for a chin! And his crew look freaky! Just look at the hermit crab dude! But I wasn't really scared by any of them.

I look forward to the third. Like, a lot.

Yar, me too. I agree about Davy Jone's crew. They were pretty sweet.
