Post subject:  Who wants to be a superhero?

I know threads around here about reality shows end up fading into the oblivion (except "American Idol", of course), and this show has the disadvantage of being on cable. But this show rocks, and you should watch it. And it deserves a thread.

"Who Wants to be a Superhero?" is on the Sci Fi Channel. Stan Lee puts original superheroes through a bunch of challenges, eliminating them one by one until one is left, who'll get "immortalized" in a comic book, and an original Sci Fi Channel movie.

The first episode's challenge was to find a place to change into their costumes without anyone noticing, then race to the finish line. Stan didn't tell them a girl was planted crying for her mommy (I think it would have worked better if the girl was a bit younger, but anyway), and the actual challenge was to see who would help her.

Major Victory seems like the favorite. He's certainly the most... enthusiastic about the whole thing. I also like Fat Momma and don't like the Iron Enforcer.

I meant to watch this... kinda forgot about it.

It sounds cool, though I'm a little saddened to see Sci-Fi giving into reality TV.

I saw the previews for that, and I'm pretty sure I saw Man-Faye on there. Can someone confirm that?

The pilot is free on iTunes at the moment.

I caught it the night it came on, but I didn't like it all. It's a good concept, but something about it just didn't keep me very hooked and by the time the episode was over I had forgotten about it.

I heard about this but I haven't had the time to see it.

Some of the superhero ideas are a flop if they make it to comics, though. "Cell Phone Girl"? What the crap?

Yes, Man-Faye did try out.

I thought so. Man, now there's a true American hero. Honestly, he can stop a speeding bullet, because the bullet would be too Jibblyfied to go near him.

I would watch this show just because of Man-Faye. I know he didn't go far or anything, but just because an obscure icon like him decided to show up is enough for me.

Of course, he still gives me the jibblies. Image

I don't get sci-fi channel, so I can't see it. Which is very irritating. I looks fun.

My ultimate goal is to go to an Anime Convention and meet him. I'd so take a pic with him....

He could be...

MAN-FAYE MAN!

I briefly considered GIMPing a picture of Man-Faye Man, but then I'd have to spend a good half-hour staring at Man-Faye, and I'm not psychologically prepared for that.

LDP'd!

I'm watching it now. Feedback is definitely my favorite. He's the nerdiest.

I don't like Cell Phone Girl, or the Iron Enforcer.

The website said that this week's episode would unveil a new villain, but I can't watch it now. So...who's the villain?

Santa man, it'd be totally worth it though. Just having an avatar of him putting his weight on it would be the best thing ever.

Post subject:  they do.

I didn't like the show as much tonight. It was less super, and more... reality show. But still good.

The show was kind of in three parts: they wrote down anonymous quesions to each other to stir up conflict in the lair. Then they ran past attack dogs. Somebody got sent home. They got costume makeovers. Somebody else got sent home. The villain showed up. Hoo-ray.

They do leave you wanting to see what happens next week.

I just got to watch both episodes just now, and I enjoyed them. It's a fun show. :bubs:

Since any of the other TV shows I like to watch aren't airing any new shows at the moment, I'll be following this when I can.

Go Major Victory and your crazy exaggerations!

SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!

The villian is Iron Enforcer. He is now the Dark Enforcer

Spoiler over

I really love this show. It just rules beyond reason. Its hosted by Stan Lee! That's reason enough to watch it.

It's Man-Faye Man!

Photobucket shrunk it a lot, but that might be a good thing.

Anyways, I really really really want either Feedback or Monkey Girl to win. They seem to be the most "in character" out of all of them.

Just got into watching this show last Tuesday, and I actually scheduled my time last night to see the new episode.

SPOILERS

A tense episode as two of my favorites were eliminated: Monkey Woman and Tibegulus. Sure, Monkey Woman had the weakest performance in the competition, but she had a wacky personality; wouldn't mind reading a comic book about her.

Does anyone else think that, at the final elimination of the episode, Tibegulus and Fat Mamma were better examples of self-sacrifice than the others who claimed it's what they would do? Tibegulus took his defeat in stride, and Fat Mamma devoted the rest of the competition to him. Part of me wants to think that Stan would re-evaluate his decision and decide that Tibegulus really did demonstrate self-sacrifice and bring him back in the game.

And IE's makeover as the Dark Enforcer was definitely an improvement. That cardboard gun was too hilarious.

END SPOILERS

By the way, Feedback and Major Victory have a definite Batman/Superman vibe going for them. I'm rooting for those two (along with Lemuria) for the final three.

And my pick is that Creature will be the next to be given the boot.

Most of those superheros are rubbish. I mean, you gotta have a theme, you can't just say "I have lasers and heat rays and fire blasts and flight and weapons and gadgets and guns and a car made out of hairgel. . . ".

Spider-Man is a spider. BatMan is a bat. FunkMan has disco balls and strobe attacks. ect.

I watched this, and I thought it was pretty good. Major Victory is probably my favorite. I also liked Iron Enforcer for some reason, and I thought it was awesome he got turned into a supervillain.

I really don't like Fat Momma or Cell-Phone Girl (who got eliminated, thankfully). Major Victory all the way!

Of course, Man Faye Man could easily beat them all. ;)

True. With the exception of Nitro G and that other guy who makes action figures, I don't think any of the contestants have actually read a comic book. But, then again, they're human and have no real powers. You can't call yourself the Flash if you can't actually run at incredible speeds....

No, I find the true joy in this: a lot of the contestants are probably poeple who were expecting a standard reality show. Instead, their success depends on Stan's almost arbitrary system of superhero morality.

Which means... it might be one of the few reality shows in existence where, to win, you have to figure out how to be nice.

Which, in some way, is a pretty nifty consolation prize. I thought it would be awesome to be a supervillain myself. Plus, there's probably a good chance that Dark Enforcer will be the villain in the comic book/Sci-fi movie they make. So, in a way, did Dark Enforcer already win second prize?

Well, there's monkey woman. Powers of a monkey. Major Victory is like superman, cell phone girl cell phone powers.
