A Question for the Admin Team.

Is there a way to run PhpBB on Online WebSpace. (No Control of Server) becuase I wanted to have a look at a Beta Version of PhpBB 3.

Hope this is in the right forum....

"Online WebSpace"? You're gonna have to be a little more specific.

phpBB requires you to have a server with PHP and MySQL installed. You don't really need any control over the server apart from file transfer and maybe changing file permissions.

If you just want to mess around with phpBB3, why not run it on your own computer? If you're on Windows there are several installers like XAMPP that will set up Apache (web server), PHP (the language), and MySQL (the database) with just a few clicks (or, if you've got a spare USB drive lying around, you might check out Portable XAMPP).

Actually, phpBB can use a few other database servers (Mysql works best though). But yeah, go with that running-it-on-your-own-computer thing. I've tried before it and it works fine, and it will save you a lot of time.

Then this might not be the right project for you. Here's a little questionnaire that will help you gauge your aptitude for this task:
  1. What is a web server? What is the difference between Apache and IIS? What does the web server have to do with phpBB?
  2. What is PHP? How does PHP work with the web server? What does PHP have to do with phpBB?
  3. What is a database? How is a database different from a text file or a spreadsheet? What is MySQL? What does MySQL have to do with phpBB?
If you answered "I don't know" to any of those questions, then you're probably not ready to install phpBB. You don't need to be an expert in any of those areas, but you should at least have superficial answers for each of those questions. Once you know the answers, then you might be ready to give phpBB a go.
