This may belong in R&P, but, I'm not sure.

Anyways, have you noticed, how insane scientist are about what you drink?
8 glasses of water, 4 glasses of milk, 2 glasses of wine, and 1 glass of orange juice... a day. They need to look at the whole picture, now don't they? You'll need diapers if you listen to them! You be in a conversation and you'll have a sudden pause. "Hey so dude, you know wh-.......... sorry, just did something now..."

Heh, true. I've heard you should drink (your weight in pounds divided by two) ounces of water a day, which can get to be a lot for people up near 200 and over. Maybe that should be a new diet: fill up on water until your weight/2 ounces leaves enough room to actually eat something.

Tho by "8 glasses of water" I think milk and OJ are included somehow. They probably count as 1/2 or 3/4 glass of water or something. Since wine is alcoholic, tho, it would have to count as 0 glasses of water. Maybe negative.

I actually read an article about this very thing. Scientists are beginning to agree that 8 glasses of water a day is too much for most people, especially (going with what Inverse Tiger said) most people get water from other sources, such as other drinks and food.

I say it's not just how much liquid you drink but WHAT kinds of liquid - water's good; milk too, unless you're alergic or a singer; juice is ok, but pretty sugary at times. Avoid regular soda like the plague, and even watch your intake of diet drinks. That's pretty much what I do.

The liquid thing ain't all, either. If you listen to scientists, dieticians, kinesiologists, a slew of different kinds of specialist medical doctors and professors from so many fields outside of science that aim to give you a more "well-rounded" life, you need to do a lot more in your life as well, such as exercising daily, eating specific kinds of foods (and cataloging what you eat) each day, practicing a musical instrument, taking classes in martial arts, meditating daily, biannual visits to the dentist and dermatologist, cleaning and maintaining your home (which can involve things like cleaning out the gutters, changing air filters, maintaining the water heater, replacing batteries in your smoke detectors, etc.), cleaning and maintaining your automobile (oil changes, engine cleaners [or whatever those bottles of chemicals you add to your gas tank are for], car washes, interior cleaning, etc.), balancing the checkbook, spending time with family and friends, taking interest in your children and their various activities....I could go on and on, but you get the point. Some of these are major, but a lot are just tiny details that we're supposed to do "each day" or "once a month" or "twice a year," that people just forget about. Dag, yo.

It doesn't matter how much effort you put into yourself.

I can understand that you need to keep yourself healthy, but...it just seems odd.

Well, why do you brush your teeth or bathe? We all are aware of our own mortality, yet we have the discipline of medicine to aid us in prolonging that inevitability as much as we're able and/or willing. Some people go to further extremes for this than others...does it mean they are more afraid of death? I don't think so--most of the time, I think it's because they want to enjoy life as much as they can.

Personally, I have no fear of dying. In fact, I'm quite excited about what I believe lies in wait for me in my next life. But that doesn't mean I'm eager to get myself killed or anything--I think it's best that I focus on living for now, and let death come for me when it will come.

Why not? It seems to be an interesting point to discuss. In fact, one thing I've thought about doing was to actually go out and catalog every last thing that these specialists say we should chronically do, and see how it tallies up in real time.

I've never understood how someone could eat 8 glasses of anything a day. Though it depends how you calculate a glass, they've got a lot of different sizes.

Well, that depends on the juice. The 100% real fruit juice is quite good for you, that's what I mainly drink. The juice cocktail stuff is a different story...

I prefer the 250mL figure myself... that's a cup, and then people use it interchangeably with glass, and then they start getting willy-nilly... "I filled eight shot glasses and drank them! I'm fully hydrated now!"

And wait... eight glasses is too much, they say? Wow... That means I must have taken a year off my life on one particularly hot day last summer... I filled a 2.2L jug, drank it, and then refilled and drank it again, totalling 4400mL, which is 17.6 cups...

I usually have for sure 8 glasses of water a day (I have a water bottle that holds 24 oz and I at least refill that 3 or 4 times a day). For milk, I might have 4 glasses if you count cereal and stuff. Then maybe I'll have some other drink... probably not orange juice. I don't think it's that crazy.

Well... it's a pretty big topic... so yeah.

Yes, scientist make you do impossible things don't they? If you listened to them I think your muscles would rip, your stomach explode and bladder explode.

-"Glass" should really be "cup", as in the measure, as in 250 ml.
-Milk and juice would count towards water.
-Probably no single scientist would advocate everything that some studies say you should be drinking. The wine thing is highly disputed.

Not sure if I agree with this, but I heard once that you'd get the same effects drinking grape juice as you would with wine because they contain the same antioxidants. But grape juice doesn't have alcohol, and correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't small doses of alcohol in moderation healthy? Maybe that's what the study is based on.

Anyway, sometimes, it's really ridiculous to follow everything scientists tell us to do. It reminds me of a panel of the Loockhorns where Loretta rushes dinner to the table and says to eat it before scientists say it's unsafe.

They say "wine is healthy" or "beer is healthy" because it has the antioxidants in it. The alcohol itself isn't healthy at all, but the antioxidants might be more healthy for you than the alcohol is unhealthy (up to a point).

The grape juice thing is true, but you gotta get the right kind. A lot of grape juice is mostly apple juice so you gotta make sure it's really grape juice, and it's best to get it not-from-concentrate. (I drink 2 liters of the stuff a week! It's pretty good.)

Forget the pizzas, imagine being chased by someone who's just finished off 17 beers. I doubt you'd have to run very fast.

Aww, come on, we skinnies aren't so bad! The important thing is for all of us to learn to appreciate healthy (not necessarily "skinny") bodies of all shapes and sizes.

Somewhere there was a survey that said that most men prefer a woman that is 10 pounds overweight than 10 pounds underweight
