I'm not sure if anyone else here has heard of it, but nu metal (also known as nu rock, rapcore, rap-rock, rap-metal and jock rock) is dying. Most of the bands (including Limp Bizkit, Korn, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Papa Roach and Spoken) have converted to conventional rock and/or alt-metal, with one of the only remaining bands being P.O.D. What's up? It's been around for about a decade and I guess most people are sick of it, but I miss it, especially since I just became a fan a few years ago (if even that). There are a few "new nu metal" artists, though, like Manafest and Family Force 5. So, should it make a comeback or just stay dead? TELL WHAT U THINK!

I'm one of the few people that don't think that it is horrible. I suppose I don't have much experience, though (Slipknot's second album).

I think it should stay. I probably wouldn't listen to it, though.

Are you talking about those songs with crazy guitar which barely sounds like guitar and some guy screaming like some kind of retarded horse?
Ugh. I don't mind people saying it's good, I mean... I suppose it's not that bad, it's just not to my liking. I don't consider it real music. It's people screaming frightening lyrics to deliver a message. And I bet it's a bad message. I have a few friends who are into it, and it's changing them. Though not entirely. But still... I just don't like that kind of music.

It is that kind of music... right?

I've been a fan of Korn for (OMG) about ten years now.

And I like Slipknot, Linkin Park and a whole mess of others too. Nu Metal has a great energy to it. It's probably not the most intellectual brand of music, but it's good music to have on when you're driving, or doing exercise, or just trying to keep awake.

Trivium is the only Nu-metal I like, but some people call it metal core.

I'm more into power metal.

I hated it until my kempo instructor played it during class. It's awesome music for kicking the crap out of things. In any other situation, though, I can't stand it.

I liked Linkin Park when they were new...the sound of rap mixed with rock was new and a bit refreshing. After their first couple of hits, though, all their songs started following the same formula, at which point I stopped enjoying it.

My friend's a huge Trivium fan, so I hear a lot of them. They're pretty good. My cousin is also a big Slipknot and Limp Bizkit fan, but after they went all alt-metal, he's stopped listening to them.

Nu-Metal...it's metal for 12 year olds and for people who can't get into real metal. Rap only did well with metal in two incarnations. Body Count and that time Anthrax and Public enemy did Bring the Noise.

I used to be big into nu metal. I was really big on KoRn. I still am huge fan of them. I used to catch a lot of flak after the Nu Metal craze died out. I got made fun of for going with the flow. I responded but putting Follow the Leader and ignore them.

What killed Linkin Park was repeating the same method of rap-rock on Meteora. Chester Bennington actually joined up with a Sonic the Hedgehog synth pop group and now he's doing industrial. Weird, huh?

I hear System of a Down was considered Nü-Metal for a spell, I've always conisdered them to be more progressive than anything else.

Anyway...I listened to Slipknot's third album for all of a week before I got tired of it. I've been a musician for most of my life and I guess it just wasn't all that intresting in a musical sense.



Well, it depends on the limit of your retarted horse understanding. I was able to hear nearly every word on the first Lamb of God track I'd ever heard but it took me three replays of Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr by Trivium to figure out what Matt Heafy was saying.

Could Rage Against the Machine be considered nü-metal?

Certainly. Rage Against the Machine is actually credited as one of the genre's instigators because of its hip-hop and Urban Dance Squad influences.

I must admit I usually try not to be very direct or say things straight when it comes to musical taste... But bands like Slipknot and Limp Bizkit are just idiotic.

Nu Metal is more geared towards emo/angry teens than anyone else, right? Well, I think it's dying because us original fans are just getting too old. The same thing happened with grunge too. And these young'uns today - they don't remember how good it was at the beginning, so that's why you're not getting as many teen Nu Metal fans today.

Okay, I've probably not thought this theory through. But anyway.

You are correct. The sound of rap mixed with rock was so new and so refreshing when Linkin Park invented it. It was like nothing we'd ever heard before. It was like bringing two worlds together like had never been done before. Almost as if you'd taken Aerosmith and Run-DMC and had them do a song together.

(But seriously, am I the only one who saw the formula at the very first single?)

Augh, you're right. Even though I've heard that song 50 million times, I kept mixing it up with other Linkin Park songs. Had to dig out my old CD before I could remember it.

I hate Nu-Metal so much... I know this is just me being retarded, but it just seems like pre-teen-wannabe-tough-loser music. Especially Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit.

Do you refferring to the times he played at summer sonic (Which isnt hedgehog-related), and most of the other sonic songs are made by crush 40.

And yeah, linkin park just isnt the same as they were. I hated half of the linkin park/jay-z songs.

I used to love limp bizkit, back when they made the chocolate starfish and the hotdog flavored water, but all later albums just havent done it for me.

Nothing Limp Bizkit produced every did it for me. They were the sucky band that rode on the good band's coat tails.
