Meh. He deserved it for messing with those animals. It was gonna happen one day or another.

Now I'm going to stick my hand right up this cow's butt...

I don't want to sound mean, but I didn't. He spent his life studying animals without respecting their boundaries, amd constantly put himself in danger for the sake of ratings. It's no wonder he ended up getting himself killed.

Thank GOD I'm not the only one who didn't like Steve Irwin here! Though my reason for despising him was a lot plainer--he was ANNOYING AS ALL HELL!!!! That voice just GRATED on me worse than a Avril Lavigne album. I'm not dissing the Australians here or their natural accent--his was just to the point that it sounded about as fake as Ms. Cleo. And I couldn't help but feel that his over-enthusiastic nature was somehow a way to dumb down the general information for viewers, as if we're all 5-year-olds.

Sorry, but I'm not shedding any tears over this man's death.

I loved Steve Irwin. His show was a major part of my childhood. Then again, that's what he gets for working on Labor Day.

Holy freakin' carp. After all those times thinking "Wow, I'm suprised one of those deadly animals hasn't killed him yet...".
Does this video work for anyone? I have no idea what it's of (something relating to him), but I can't watch it right now.

It works, for me at least. I'm still a little bit shocked by this. I mean, with what he did for a living, it was only time until something like this happened, but still...

Roffle

Exactly, this dude would just jump on random aligators people, but I will admit that he didn't deserve to die. But all these people that are saying "Oh, this is such a shock!" need to think about what he did for a living.

P.S. Did they get this on film?

It seems almost anti-climactic, you know. You'd expect him to be torn to shreds by a crocodile or a shark, but a stingray?

I mean...stingrays never kill anyone.

There's a good chance, since he was filming a documentary when it happened. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to see if that video worked, 'cause I wondered if they showed it. I bet they have it somehow on film.

I wonder if they'll sell it to the next Faces of Death.

But they usually never show someone actually dying on film. It's disrespectful to the family.

That's very true, but did he die instantly or later on in a hospital? I wonder if they'll ever show him getting stung.

According to some ABC journalist, he died instantly when the spur pierced his heart. And he said that Steve producers have footage of the accident, but it's unlikely that they'd ever air it.

I'm surprised how much Steve Irwin is known and loved as an "Australian icon" outside of Australia... here in Australia, opinions of him are quite a bit lower...

It's mostly just how much he layers on the Aussie stereotype... a lot of Americans are suprised when I tell them that I've never said "crikey" and neither has anyone I've ever met (except satirically, when mocking The Crocodile Hunter). I've never heard anyone with that strong an accent either, except when they're layering it on. And yet the rest of the world doesn't see through it, and it reinforces the stereotype.

I mean, it's sad to see him gone, of course, but not nearly so much here as it is elsewhere.

I am an American and I knew that that accent was way to thick, that is one of the biggest thing that I hated about him.

Tragic, yes. However, the fact that someone who messed around with crocodiles that much got killed by a stingray (which are usually pretty harmless) is probably one of the most ironic things that ever happened.

Steve Irwin being dead is almost unreal. It's like Jupiter blew up, became a black hole, swallowed the sun, then became inexplicably inhabited by a monumental alien species. Just hard to believe.

I just heard this on the news 2 minutes ago. I'm not really sad, I'll just miss him in a way. I will miss his voice, though.

RIP Steve, you totaly rocked.

I always liked the crocodile hunter, I knew he'd die in this way sometime though, but I never thought it'd be so soon. Cosolations to his wife and kids.

I was shocked to hear that Mr. Irwin died! At least he wasn't mauled to death (or eaten, for that matter) by a crocodile.

I could pull off a ad hominen against you, but seeing as if I'm another person who doesn't really care that Mr. Irwin died, well, yeah.

Nonetheless, Steve was a good man. *shoves PianoMan* And that still sounded mean. Have a cookie.

You have to feel sorry for the family of Steve Irwin. They probaly want some privacy just to mourn, but they are going to keep getting bugged about it. And what about his daughter? I dont know how old she is, but she is still pretty young. She not only had her Dad die, but almost everybody in the world knows about it.

Wow... just... wow. That wasn't supposed to happen. Steve Irwin is, like, the guy.

I wonder what Animal Planet's gonna do now? Keep showing reruns over and over?

Oh no!

Stingrays never usually kill.

This is a sign!

SOON, STingrays will be spelt with a capital S and T in any sentence!
And-And. They'll take over the world as they learn to fly!

Bow down to our sea overlords.

For a long time I'd hear about him or see him on TV and wonder how he survived each time. I expected something bad to happen to him, but every time he got out of it. You never can be too careful I suppose.
I don't really like that he overdid the Australian character. I must say, though, that after hearing all this stuff about politics and tsunamis and protests... it's kind of nice to watch an entertainer like him.

Yeah; they have started showing the original Croc Hunter show, which they stopped doing a while ago, and they are showing it more often. They'll probably either prepare something big in a week or so, or at least do some in memoriam thing.

And as for you, Gidley, at least feel sorry for his family or something to that effect. Jerk.

Pretty sad. You'd think he'd be invincible, doing what he did and surviving for that long. Apparently not.

But yeah, it's so ironic how a man who wrestles crocs could get killed by a stingray. He could've choked on a peanut and die harder.

On this planet, 3 people die every second. That's three more families that hurt every passing second. How many of those families are ones for which you honestly stop and give consideration? Sorry if I sound callous, but just because he was a celebrity doesn't make him any better of a human being, nor does it mean that his death should be more important to me.
