What are your coolest free (cuz other people might want to download them) downloaded programs youve used? you might want to include the url to to them too so other people can look at them. Thats basically the point of this topic, sharing really cool downloadeble programs. So yeah....

i dont know mine yet

I use d-lusion Rubberduck for synth bass every once in a while. It works very nicely.

HammerHead Rhythm Station is perfect drum machine software for beginners. And let's not forget the AnalogX vocoder, which works fairly well.

I've got a good one for this. OpenOffice.org. It's totally free and there are no copyright infringements, but it's fairly similar to Microsoft Office.

Yes, VERY YES!!
OpenOffice.org is GREAT.
You can save in Word format (and a bunch of others, including PDF, PowerPoint, and Excel).
The PowerPoint thing (they call it OpenOfficeImpress) is a bit of a pain, though.

My favrorites behind OpenOffice are Gibson Ridge Level 3* viewer (radar program that, when combined with a cell phone with internet connectivity, provides EXCELLENT storm chasing data) and the GIMP (graphics program similar to photoshop)

*GR Level3 isn't actually free. It's a free 30 day trial, but can be uninstalled at the end of said trial and reinstalled (it doesn't set any kind of registry key)

I don't really agree with this, well, except for the Impress/Powerpoint thing. Chart making with their version of Excel (Calc) can be problematic if you want to do anything other than the default.

While I do feel that MS Office is superior to OpenOffice.org, it's not $150 worth of superior. It is easier to use, though. (The only things better about OpenOffice are the price, $0.00, and the ability to save in about a gazillion file formats). It's still a bit touchy sometimes, though.

I agree. OO.o is great, but though Office isn't perfect, it is better overall.

(Generally speaking I don't care at all about word processing, but spreadsheets are a different matter, and I've yet to see anything come anywhere near besting Excel.)

. Double-o-dot-o fits with me well because I don't usually need to do anything too involved. It definitely depends on the user.

In no particular order:

Neverball - I've been hooked on that for a while...
QEMU - For when something requires me to go back to Windows (or just when I'm feeling masochistic)
AAlib and XaoS - just 'cause they're cool to watch. Grab BB if you haven't heard of it already.
FireFox, X-Chat, The GIMP - use 'em most every day.
Blender - 3D modelling program.
Ethereal - Network analyser, very useful for tracking down problems.
Liquid War 5 - Very entertaining game, though the CPU players can be a bit dense... ideal for real multiplayer action against other real people.
Frozen Bubble - quite a nice clone of the classic... Windows port is here.
Audacity - sound editor, fun for playing around in.
Dasher - defies description, you just have to try it for yourself.

All of which are free and open-source, and I think they're all released under the GPL.

I know. It enabled me to rock the metaphorical party all night long with a lone Windows sound recorder before I had the ability to mooch off my parents.

Celestia is perhaps one of the more interesting things ever to grace the web. It's a 3d space simulator, completely free, and such and such. Plus, you can get add-ons at this place. Definitely a good download.

I got that a few days ago. It's like Google Earth, on an incomprehensibly larger scale. Very fun, though I've found that most of space is rather boring.

Paint.NET is basically MSPaint on steroids - kinda like Paint Shop Pro, except that it's free. Try it, you'll like it.

Gaim is annoying and isn't as easy to use as Trillian (but I use neither for IRC, it's just not as nice). Then I realized that Meebo is almost as good even though it's web-based. srsly, meebo rocks.
My favorite downloads (some of them, since most of the good ones have been said already):

Stepmania - open source ddr type game
PSPad - pretty good text editor, but doesn't support newlines
XAMPP - run Apache, Perl, PHP, and MySQL all offline
MP4Cam2AVI - converts digital camera videos to AVIs so most video editing programs can open them. This one probably isn't as usefull but I was so happy when I found it (a long time ago) that I had to put it here.

nLite 1.01 kicks.

Just slipstreamed about 100 MS updates, drivers, add-ons and about a ton of codecs into my XP Pro sp2 OEM disk with it. Talk about a real time-saver.

Read the freeking manual first, people. nLite is not as simple as it sounds. Ignore me at your own peril.
