I think it does, actually. Rail thin models are somewhat disgusting in my opinion. Personally, I think they'd sell more if they used people of healthy weight.

I'd also like to contest that I think it should make them less qualified to model because what they are doing is blatantly unhealthy and destructive to their bodies. People using illegal drugs such as cocaine or herione are often not given employment because the usage of such drugs is illegal, and the REASON such drugs are illegal is because of their destructive nature on the human body. So in the same light, choosing to will an eating disorder upon yourself should disqualify someone from employment--even in modelling--because it is a destructive, unhealthy choice.

The choices the models make have nothing to do with the people viewing them, though. Models who use illegal drugs lose their jobs because what they're doing is ILLEGAL. As unhealthy as it is, having an eating disorder is not a crime and people with eating disorders who have modeling careers shouldn't be punished.

This also made me think of a joke.

Q: What did the model say after she got fired for being anorexic?
A: "How am I going to keep food on the table now?"

And my point was that it was illegal because it's UNHEALTHY. The destruction of health is the underlying motive there for making it illegal in the first place, which means that the people obviously have a moral objection to someone actively destroying his/her own state of health. Why should eating disorders be different?

Uhhh... outlawing eating disorders? That's like outlawing depression, bipolar disorder, ADD, autism...

The term "eating disorder," if you haven't noticed, has the word "disorder" in it.

First off, I wasn't saying we should outlaw eating disorders--I was saying that it was good enough criteria over which to fire models, just as illegal drug usage is. Furthermore, this was based very much on Marshmallow Roast's statements that it's a conscious choice (like choosing to drink soda instead of water) and not really a disorder (like the ones you listed). I personally feel that it's more of a disorder, and it THAT'S the case, then the model should be forced by his/her employers to get professional help before any more damage is done, just as employers are used to doing when an employee has other harmful disorders.
