So, yea, I've got a dance coming up. I won't go, because dances are stupid contrivances for the simple minded, made to make people panic for a date, and reducing themselves to morons. What's your opinion?

I agree with you all. Dances are crap.

That is all.

You guys must have gone to the wrong dances. We used to have some good ones when I was in elementary school and middle school. I used to get paid to DJ them, so it was an easy way to put some money in my pocket.

I would usually queue up some tracks and dance a little, then go back, do some more DJ-ing, dance some more, etc..

The only dance I didn't go to was the "8th grade dance", which was supposed to be something like a prom, except we weren't allowed to dress up because "the kids who don't have money to spend will feel bad". There was a lot of crap involved in my decision not to go. Mainly, the way that the "student advisory committee" had no power in making any decisions related to the dance.

The friends I had then (there weren't a lot), all came over to my house and we spent the evening playing volleyball. I'm not sure, but for some reason, I think that was the night removed my eyebrows when lighting the grill.

Dances are fun if you use them properly! I always go to 'em and watch the crazy hygienks unfold with me and my friends. Yeah. Sorry to rain on you guys' non-conforming parade.

Hmm. For me, it depends on the dance. DEPRESSING TRUTH: Without fail, any dance for under-18s will always suck. Always. It can get better when you're an adult - maybe. It all depends on the company, the alcomahol supply, the venue, and the music. In that order.

And then it's ALL about the DRESS!!! Dress = Best Part.

I think the best dance I've ever been to was the end-o-the-year all grade "Final Fling". I hung out with all my friends, got my hair done like Princess Leia, and we requested that the DJ play "Devil Music". Yeah. It was fun.

I have only gone to 1 dance in my life.

8th grade MUD dance.

I had fun...

'Cause it was my first actual date with Sami and stuff.

And FoNT went dressed like he was from Back to the Future.

And our band performed there. With an excess of backup singers.

And they played Numa Numa.

It was alright.

You're reminding me of the worst band at a dance ever. There was a guitarist/vocalist and a drummer. The drummer was playing in something like 7/4 time, but the song was Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit." The guitarist had some of the most messy picking I've ever heard. The killing point, of course, was the singer. I have never heard a voice be so off-key and cocky at the same time. The whole song was in a monotone. Ugh.

Oh yeah? We had an air guitar, 5 off key voices, half the lyrics missing, and the other half of the lyrics incorrect. We win the bad band contest. XD

I have only gone to one dance ever.

AND it rocked.

Sure, it's noisy, it's eye-hurty, and tiring, but man, it's fun. Go and do some wacky shenanigans. Suggest some out of style song to the DJs and act like it's your favorite song. Dance your way into every dance circle that comes. And don't even ask anyone unless it's big. Just go with some friends to have fun.

Advice from an idiot! Catch it every Sunday!

At least you weren't taking yourself seriously. No effort's better than a half an effort. :p

A multi-user-dungeon dance??? Now that's worth going to!

But really, dances suck. Loud incoherant noise, coupled with people cramed into a tigh dance floor does not the good times make.

I've been to a few. they're not bad. It's all about who you hang out with that night. If you're with friends, it'll be alright. If you're there looking for a date, good luck.

I haven't been to a dance. Ever.

And the first one I will go to is in 2 years.

I plan to do one of two things:

1) Ask Holt to dance or something like that

2) Just go there with my friends.

... Yep.

Non-conformists are all alike.

The dances in Primary School were stupid. Not a lot of people danced. The High School ones are ok, though.

Haha, it stood for "Moving Up Day" cause we were leaving the middle school. But come to think of it, I like your way better.

I think the point of a school dance is to get more money for the school. Why else do you think they make you pay for tickets to go to it? Same thing with school plays.

I never went.

Well, okay, I went to Sophomore Banquet, and it was just a huge embarrassment. When you're a size twenty-plus, nobody really cares to see you dressed up, much less dressed up dancing. After seeing pictures from that, I just gave up altogether. I didn't go to prom, I didn't go to Senior Luau (I was planning on it, had a date, but I accidentally bought our tickets to Cats for the same night as the Luau, so my date and I went to that instead) and just basically stayed away from all that.

I guess if I had been more self-confident (i.e. thinner) in high school I would have been all over the dances, date or no. As a former "serious dancer," there is nothing I love more than dancing. And as a smaller, sexier size ten-twelve, dang. I'd love to go to a dance!

Just do both. Hang out with your friends, and then later on when you build up the confidence, ask him for a dance. What do you got to lose?

I used to go to dances in high school. The major ones, anyway. I think I only went to a few regular dances, but those were fun too. I went to the semi-formals, though, and our grad dance. Getting all prettied up only to take your shoes off an hour in = fun stuff. The best part was waiting for "Jump, Jive 'n' Wail" to come on so's I could show off my amateur swing-dancing moves. Grrrreat.

Most of the money from the dances goes to the DJ. In my small school (about 400) we only got $100 for our field trip last year. We went to the town beach. :-(

Dude, dances are awesome. It's great to be with your friends and, of course, dance. And you get to dress up (I usually put on a casual shirt and a really nice tie, for a bit of individuality. Plus, usually the money is for some charity or a club at school, and you need to support that.

The only things that suck are when you need a date for the dance, like prom (at least that's how it is at our school). And the music isn't usually that great, and you can't request anything good unless he isn't already playing the same artist you're gonna request sometime within the 2 hours you're there, or it's good metal that he doesn't have the clean version of.

Seriously, I requested Macy's Day Parade by Green Day, and the DJ was like, "Oh, I'm already playing Green Day" and he played that stupid overrated When I come around which you cannot dance to, and he wouldn't play my request because he was already playing Green Day. And my friends didn't get Rob Zombie played because he didn't have the edited versions.

But still, I give dances a 9/10.

Dances at my school normally mean, cops, crappy music, alcohol (underage very very very very bad), making whoopy in closets (and one time right on the gym floor). I've been to 2 homecomings no fun. First time I ditched half way through. The one this year had a bunch of security so i basically just sat on the bleachers with my friends while we threw smuggled in water balloons at people.
