EDIT: This used to be The Microsoft-Bashing Thread, but it turns out that this forum is different from, say, every other one on the Internet. I still loathe Microsoft, but since people think I'm some sort of messed-up fanboy now, go ahead and calmly discuss the topic.

I hate Macs because it seems that most people who use them turn into fanboys. Must be the radiation.

I'm not sure what Macs have that PCs don't, mostly due to how all Mac fans ever talk about is how much Windows sucks. I can only assume that it comes with 5 pre-loaded generic "Windows sucks" Rants which can be pasted with a click of a button. I mean, look at the commercials recently. The creators obviously absorbed alot of that Mac-Radiation in the creation process.

Here's what I think about your macs (swearing)

That's why you get this, duh.

1) I have never used AOL once.
2) Don't like IE? Don't use it. Problem solved.

Btw, I hate Macs. The only thing that is REMOTLEY neat about them is their looks.

Also, I have a feeling this thread will not go down well with the mods/admins.

You know, the same could be said about Linux and Windows fanboys as well. No operating system is perfect. Some are just better than others for specific purposes, such as Linux and website designs.

I have never seen a Windows or Linux User rant about how another system sucks.

I've seen plenty of Linux people make snide remarks about Windows users all of the time.

I see Mac and Linux/Unix fanboys all of the time. The only time I can recall seeing Microsoft fanboys is when someone says they're getting a Wii or PS3.

Let me guess: Performa 6200, System 7.5

Pff, I don't know. All I know is that it was a brand new iBook.

I hate Microsoft, for ONE REASON:'

MS Paint.

Insert arglbarf here.

IE sucks. Badly. But nothing can come close to the suckiness of Paint, unless it's a different graphics program made to intentionally suck really badly. And even then, it wouldn't be as bad as Paint. No layers, no filters, no antialiasing, and it makes things get horribly JPG'D and GIF'D. x.x

Umm, paint isn't supposed to be a high powered graphics program, it's mean to be what it is, a simple play around type thing.

It's impossible to judge a system never having used it before. Just because you couldn't figure out something after using it for a few minutes doesn't mean that nobody should use it.

This goes for all operating systems. I switched to using Linux (Slackware) full-time a couple of weeks ago. Why? It's not that I hate Microsoft or Apple, I just don't use anything proprietary to their systems. I find that Unix-like operating systems tend to be far more logical in their design, which is why I use them. Just because something doesn't make sense to you, it doesn't necessarily not make sense to everybody. Brushing something off after using it for only a minute or two, comin in with a negative attitude, not giving it a fair chance, is what's at issue here.

Eh, true, but people deserve better. I mean, would you rather try to do art in Paint, fail at it and think you're really bad at computer graphics and wonder how everyone makes those awesome drawings and such and not realizing you could make those awesome drawings in GIMP or Photoshop fairly easily? I thought that for years until I got GIMP. Paint's made to be simple, but most people could learn Photoshop/GIMP/PSP/whatever fairly easily with some help files. And I'd rather play around with some filters than play around with a bucket fill tool and a paint brush, aye? x3

Exactly, Paint is made to be simple. Not everyone buys a computer to do crazy go nuts art. Programs like Corel/Photoshop/GIMP exist for the people that do.

Stop insulting other [insert objects here] if you know it might get some people angry!
Stop trying to cram what you think might be best down other peoples throats. Let them find out if it's preferable or not, don't stick it to them.

I love my Mac. It makes my skin glow. WIth fanboyish radiation.

OK, so I have both a Mac and PC, and the biggest difference? The Mac mouse has one button. The PC mouse has two. That is the biggest difference.

And in a weird reversal, I actually use the PC for all my graphical and video editing needs, while the Mac is nice for surfing the net and writing out reports... using Microsoft Office for Mac. Eerie.

(Oh, and a word of warning to the Snork: surfing the web will be a different experience since most sites are optimized for Internet Explorer. Sure, there's also an IE version for Mac, but since you hate it so much, I doubt you'll use it. Also, IE for Mac is more limited.)

Ninti, like me, you probably are confused by some things on a Mac because you rarely use them. When you get used to soemthing, it's ahrd to learn it another way. it's not the Mac's fault (And it's not Windows' fault the other way around), they're just dfferent.

I am a bit confused by some things I've heard though. If you hate IE, you don't have to use it. Same with paint. WIndows doesn't force you to use either of these, so I wouldn't judge the whole operating system on them.

I used a Mac EXTENSIVLY for an epic school project. I understood it perfectly. I didn't like it.

Why I like PCs for the most part:

Easily upgradible beefy gaming computer parts.

Those commercials just reek ignorance. Simple as that.

If macs aren't PCs, then who owns them?

Who owns PCs then? There is no PC company.
What Jon means (I think) is the PC stands for personal computer, meaning an individual owns it. Who owns a Mac? Individuals?
Wouldn't that make them Personal Computers, too?

C'mon. PC is one of those terms nowadays that trascends the acronym. PCs now refer to Windows-based PCs. Both Mac users and PC users both have come to the same conclusion about the term. If Apples started to call their Macs PCs, you'd see complaints coming from both camps, not just Mac users.

If you're at a loss for a definition, "desktop" seems to be a neutral definition that is tied to no operating system.

Microsoft, I hate your spineless guts. Bill Gates may be a good person and all, charity 'n' such, but the company he runs (ran?) is pure evil. Or at least unusable.

Until then, the pain I endure using your software and third-party hardware will be nearly too much to handle.

Don't forget about the integrated (and I mean INTEGRATED) software that conviently comes with the computers. Have you ever tried to get AOL off your system? You can't. Same with Internet Exploder. Your insipid little marketing schemes will not last for long.

For I will get an iMac. And the vengeance... oh, it will be sweet. I'll install OpenOffice.org too, just to rub in your snotty little faces that I'm never using your operating system again, no matter how much the file extensions coax me to. I am getting an iMac.

It will be a good time.

Any insults you would like to add, go ahead. As a special little feature, I'll add them to a little library of insults toward Microsoft on my compy. Then release it to the viewing public. Or at least theoretically.

YOU ARE THE COMPUTER SAINT!
im getting a Mac this christmas too, im gonna be able to do all the stuff i do on this computer but better, faster, longer, and harder! my recordings will sound clearer, and i'll be able to write down my music without having to re-install Cool Edit Pro. its gonna be awesome!

Like:

  • No open standards.
  • Lack of anti-aliasing in text.

To be honest, I wouldn't trust the opinions of those people. The guy that taught my numerical atmospheric modeling class always said that smart people don't update from something that's working until they absolutely have to (almost all weather forecast models are in FORTRAN, because it works).
Even if it isn't 100% true, anyone that knows anything knows that you shouldn't update microsoft products until you absolutely have to. Every new Microsoft OS seems to trip off a wave of worms, bugs, critical crashes, etc. This isn't a problem with Microsoft so much as it is that most troublemakers target MS because so many people use their products. That's what bugs me about those Mac ads. If Mac was the dominant operating system, you'd see a bunch of Mac worms..
Even without the worms, Microsoft's version 1 of stuff seems like a Beta version. There are usually plenty of bugs to work out.

Anyway, like I was saying, until Vista is absolutely required, there's no reason for people to leave XP for it.
