Are you superstitious, or do you have any superstitions? I usually always put things on my right side first. Right sock, gloves, shoes. The only thing that I put on my left is my watch. Have you got any? |

I'm not sure if this counts, but I believe in Tarot cards. I even consulted them before I joined this forum, because I had a bad online experience once, and I'm not eager to have it again. |

I think that as far as sports go, bowlers are probably the most superstisious. I mean, it's a huge mental game. They don't like people commenting on their score, and if someone's doing really good, they don't want anyone to mention 300. I've seen games won and lost because of things like that. |

I avoid walking under ladders just for the heck of it. |

I don't really have any superstitions, nor am I superstitious. I just set dumb, uncompletable(sp?), expectations for myself. And if I don't fulfill these silly expectations, something horrible will happen to me. |

we have a tradition on the school bus. when we cross over the railway line, we raise our school bag over our head. it's odd. |

I'm not one bit superstitiouis, I don't believe in horoscopes, tarot cards or any of that other stuff... I do however, occasionally, silently mock superstition, such as, I walk under ladders, and I read my horoscope sometimes to see how it's going to be wrong (it is always either wrong or so totally vague it could apply to one of 75 things that happen). So, nope, I am not superstitious, not a bit. |

I'm totally not superstitous. But my dad is. He won't let me open an umbrella in the house, or let me walk under the attic stairs. |

What I don't understand is why people think walking under a ladder, or opening umbrellas indoors could make your day worse. Does it actually make any sense? |

Eh, there's probably some stupid explanation behind it. Like you shouldn't open umbrellas in a house since it symbolized withdrawing a sword from a scabbard and could be taken as an invitation to duel in the whateverhundreds. Ehm, not really. I believe in the supernatural, but not superstitions. I don't care about black cats or ladders or whatever. |

Does it actually make any sense? Ladders Hypothisized by me. Ladders were probably prone to break at times, leaving the guy standing on the ladder falling on top of whatever was under it. Standing under the ladder would be a potentially dangerous action that some might consider tempting fate. This would be a logical, though unproven, explanation of why it was eventually "Bad Luck" to stand under a ladder. |

Well, one little superstition-esque thing I have was when my friend told me you should wish for something whenever the time was all the same digits (so you would wish at 1:11, 2:22, 3:33, 4:44, 5:55, and 11:11). Well, I started doing that, not believing that it'll come true, but just for fun. But now, I go by my watch time, and whenever I'm done wishing, I kiss the face of my watch, for some reason. Which is, y'know, just a little awkward if someone sees me.

how do you walk under a ladder, anyhow? all good quality ladders have a supporting rope, bar or chain between the underneath. |

Yeah. You don't walk under a ladder because it's dangerous! not because it's superstitious. Stupid people... |

Oh, tons. 1. You most always take the same number of steps each day with each foot. Otherwise one foot will be happier than the other. 2. You must touch the same number of things with your right hand and left hand, right foot and left foot, and right ear and left ear, otherwise your balance will get screwed up and you'll fall over someday. 3. You must never consume any dairy products within twenty(20) hours of an athletic competition. 4. If you have any situation where you need to run fast (such as a race or a mile run in PE class), never play catch with anything (such as a frisbee or a tennis ball) or else you will run slower. 5. Don't make any sudden 'plunges' with your body within two(2) hours before an athletic competition. 6. Never turn in a test first in the class. Even if you finish way before everyone else, always wait for one other person to finish. If the second person is walking up to turn it in, you may sometimes get up and turn yours in just before, but never get out of your seat first. 8. Laugh a lot before an athletic competition, and if you ever feel any kind of sadness / stress coming on, take a deep breath and quick make yourself laugh or something before you feel the acid hit get into your stomach. 9. Never put #7 in an ordered list of superstitions. |
