It still bugs me that someone can break into my house, get bit by my dog, and can try to sue me. You forfeit that right of safety the second you break into my house.

the difficulty is that if your dog bites the person before they do anyting nefarious ( bad ) then they can claim all sorts of things about why they were coming into your house, such as to put out a fire, etc. not that those things would be true, but they could confuse a jury.

the real reason to have a dog is to alert humans that someone is entering. and to discourage people from breaking in.

as to the three words, beware of dog, add two more: NO TRESSPASSING. this will ensure that no one can successfully sue you for harm on your property, because you have notified them that they are not welcome or allowed on your property.

the same thing can be accomplished on an individual basis by advising a person that they are tresspassing and if they remain they can be arrested. this applies to all private property.

also, most dogs i know bark. so you dont even have to read.
