In case you haven't heard.

Well, I can't say I'm too surprised. It's not like they were gonna put him on PROBATION.

Excuse me for a second, but I have something to get offa my chest.

Parole is an early release of a prison sentence, but to get it, you must a) live in a state that has parole and b) serve the minimum time of your sentence. So if you're serving 7-10 years, you won't be eligible for parole for 7 years. What you were thinking of was probation.

Sorry, I'm a Criminal justice major who's trying to get a job as a correctional officer, so that kinda peeved my off there for a sec.

Now, as for Sadam, if was pretty much a sealed deal that he was going to be given the death penalty. There was no way they were just going to give him life without parole.

Hrm... Though pretty much everyone knew this was going to happen... I dunno, I feel like this will be the start of something major. Best-case scenario, his execution leads to a sharp decrease in insurgency. But the best scenario rarely unfolds.

Yeah. Usually the worst-case scenario tends to happen. At least Saddam will never do any self-physical or self-mental actions after his death again.

I think that came out wrong.

What could happen though for the worst case scenario is that he'll become a martyr and there will be even more cases of insurgency.

Most likely it'll have no effect at all, since most of the insurgents aren't trying to put Saddam back in power anyway.

I was disappointed in how shady the trials seemed. I mean, the guy killed thousands of people, can't he have a legit-looking trial instead of changing judges and taking a long time and making him look railroaded? This should have been open and shut. It's another sign the new Iraqi government still has a long way to go.

I'm not for the death penalty in any case, but it was obvious this was going to happen no matter what. So whatever.

Nope. It's still a legal method of execution of some states here in America. It states that on the hanging Wikipedia page.

Ok, we're getting a bit too far off topic. We do have a death penalty thread, ya know?

You know what I think they should do to Saddam, the same thing he did to the Kurds. They should gas him with VX Nerve Gas. Let's go Code of Hammurabi on him. Eye for an eye.

I think they should give him a very nice last meal, with bacon, ham, and baby back ribs.

Well, who didn't see that coming.

Although, IMO, they should keep 'im alive. In some kinda tough prison. I mean...I would think death is kind of a royalty. Also...I have to agree with above...I didn't know hanging was still legal. That's pretty messed up.

Hanging is a classic! I personally would've prefered the guillotine, but hanging will do the deed just as well.

Option suggested by some people at my school:

Give him a sex change and send him back to Iraq.

That'd be like the worst punishment ever for him.

I think we all saw this coming. There was no way he was going to get anything less. He deserves it.

But isn't this exactly what Saddam wanted? He wanted to be a martyr? Or am I thinking of some other terrorist? I think I am.

You're thinking of bin Laden.

I'm not surprised that Saddam's going to be hanged, but I do think this means that we should start heading out of Iraq kinda soon.

Cant, theyre are still terrorist cells in iraq, and if theyre not taken out, then being in there since we caught him would have been for nothing.

As much as I'm against the death penalty, to be honest I don't care whether Saddam gets life imprisonment or he dies. Either one'd be fitting.

Unfortunately, that will never happen. Everytime we eliminate one, two more take their place.

Hussein was never a particularly devout Muslim, although he acted like it for a time as a political maneuver. It is important to remember that the Hussein government was not an Islamic regime per se.
