Yep, that's pretty incomprehensible.

Um.

Lessee here.

Maybe the Wizard from the Wizard of Oz. That would be pretty neat.

Um.

Oh wait! I know!

When I was a wee lad I pictured God as this big, huge buff guy. Like, angellically big.

I always think of God as what he is on the Simpsons. Giant, majestic, long hair, but you never know what his face looks like. I don't know why I see him as that though.

I've always had a bad habit of envisioning God as a giant Jesus. Stupid, I know. :-| Anyway, I don't think He looks human, I think His appearance is something completely incomprehendable to us, like something we can only see in heaven. Too beautiful for words.

Random thought: Is it possible that God would tailor His appearance and/or voice to suit what each individual thinks He should look/sound like?

Isn't that what the aliens did in Carl Sagan's Contact?
"...We thought that this image would be more pleasurable to you.."

I would have to agree with Didy here (as I do on most subjects). They're aren't many descriptive paintings of people before around 1000 A.D. Resultantly, we have no idea what the first people might have looked like, and as such no idea what God's figure may have looked like in order for them to be created in His image.[/runonsentence]

I believe it mentions in the Bible that no one can look at God in the prowess of all His massive entirety. I don't even think it provides an exception about people who are in Heaven. If God does have a size, he would not be large in the way our brains process the concept. Rather, it would be more of an infinite largeness than a purely finite one. If it were to be true that His size was infinite,he would not have any edge or outline, take up an infinite amount of space, and have no shape. Now, since I don't believe God would choose to be a particular size over another (i.e., 50 ft. over 100 ft.), and since He does have volume, he has no shape.

And, then, would Adam and Eve not have been the same? (Maybe that's how Adam lived 900+ years...)

I wish I could say "We'll find out when we die," but I'm not certain if He would reveal Himself even then.

But what about when he took the forms of a Pillar of Fire and a Pillar of Cloud? Or when he wrestled with Jacob (thus naming him Israel, which means "Wrestles with God"?).

He didn't "take the form" of anything; He created an image through which He could interact with the physical world. and that was an angel that wrestled with Jacob.

God *created* the physical, He can't BE physical.

Yes, God did create the physical, and therefore transcends the physical world. However, I think you are incorrect in saying that he cannot take upon himself physical form. After all, the God who created heaven and earth is perfectly free to interact with that creation in whatever way he chooses, including taking form within it. Be careful about placing such limitations on God's abilities.

I could agree to the "Looks like you want him to" idea.

This whole thing gives me a headache! But I think He can look however He wants to look at any particular time. If He has almighty power and whatnot, shouldn't He be able to change his appearance at will? I don't like the conventional way He's always portrayed though...it just seems like religion is all a big clique.

Okay I'm making no sense.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Also, I would like to give StrongSadSympathizer a cookie for spelling "clique" properly. People always seem to write "click" instead...*cookie give*

I don't think the "like you want him to" works. I wanted him to look like strawberry cheesecake, and he didn't turn into strawberry cheesecake for me. I think a better answer would be, "what you need" instead, that is, assuming he always chooses forms to accommodate. On Sunday mornings, he usually looks like ordinary bread and wine.

Not so odd, if you consider John 6 (along with 1 Corinthians 11:23-32)

I believe we were created in God's image. As taught by Joseph Smith:

"The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us."

How do you know he's not a strawberry cheesecake?

Just kidding, your idea beats the other one.

When I was a kid (even though I'm not religious at all) I imagined God as a big lion.

Weird.

I'ma agree with lahimatoa, even though I just read that quote-thingy. I never really thought about it, but that seems like the most probable. Only I want him not a Holy Ghost. More of Simpson's like God. WITH 6 FINGERS!
