Simple: Teacher shortage. Parents get all up in arms about "my kid has to have a small class" instead of "my kid needs good teachers".
My sister in law is a teacher, and she had to go through a freaking lot of tests and whatnot. It was hectic for her, to say the least.

I thought this was going to talk about some other mother-offspring thing that happened.

Now, I know this sounds very weird, but I wouldn't mind being left alone like that. Then again, I'm 15, so it's different. I do agree it had to be the other way around, but I find a bit of logic in this illogical decision. Dog + child More danger than child. The chances of a child getting kidnapped or the car it was in stolen is very low, especially with a valet looking over it.

But Chicken Leg, the child was only 2. There's no logic in the world that should ever allow you to leave your 2 year old in the car while you go shopping. None what so ever.

I was just thinking of that part. Maybe it's the soda, but I see no problem in that.

Don't worry, I don't plan on having children. I guess I'm sympathetic over illogical stuff somehow, despite being very logical in real life.

Then again, why would someone go shopping with their dog and leave their kid behind? I think I'm starting to understand the logic. It would seriously damage the kid's mental stability somehow. And I'm all against doing stuff like that. If anything, the child should've came and the dog staying behind. But, I'm strangely over forgiving on those things.

Ah well. Forget about me. Though I would know the answer, I'd still don't know what to do in her situation.

So why not license people to have children for the same reasons? Parents are going to be the most responsible for a child's physical, psychological/emotional, and perhaps even spiritual well-being.

Have you ever read The Giver?

In the story's dystopian future setting, couples have to /apply/ for children. I don't remember if, upon their application being accepted, the couple was allowed to produce a child or if they just...received one in 6 to 8 weeks or something, but either way. Messed up.

Of course, when you read about things like this, that kind of system seems like a good idea.

Having read that book, I can say it's more like the second one. They don't actually get to give birth to their own child, they have some women dedicate their entire lives just to making babies for other people to have. SERIOUSLY messed up.

Yeah, I just Sparknotes'd The Giver out of curiosity. o_o Totally creepy book. We pretended to read it in 7th grade. Peoples' spouses are chosen based on compatibility (SUPER MATCH DOT COM!) and their kids are assigned to them. o-o

Not their entire lives. Just three years, and then they became labourers. I know this because I borrowed the book from the library after reading this thread. The whole birthmother thing made no sense in that book anyway. There are fifty kids born every year, so they'd need 17 new birthmothers a year. Yet the characters see it as being shameful and for stupid people.
