I am so glad I have RSPCA over here. I'm sure PETA are okay, but still...
It's just... ethically wrong. Would they have rather that the zoo owners had let the bear starve in the first place instead of trying to keep it alive in the best conditions they can? I'm not saying that they should go to prison or anything, just that they need to see the bigger picture.
Animals should have just as much of a right to life as humans, and as long as the bear isn't showing signs of unhappiness, they should just continue as they are/were. Just because something can't sit in front of you and say "Yeah. I'm doing great, even if this isn't entirely natural." doesn't mean you should kill it.
If that is the case, no zoo animals are in a natural state with us lot gawking at them. Why don't that lot try to get them all killed? It would be over the same principles, pretty much.
Death isn't something to be issued so casually.

Oh. And on the vegetarian issue, I've been a vegetarian for years, and I'm doing great! Physical health-wise, that is. No extra sicknesses for me.
