So a bunch of 2008 Presidential candidates now have official profiles on Myspace, facebook, & YouTube to reach out to prospective voters. I think it's great--you can watch videos of the candidates and their stances on issues without having to sit through annoying campaign ads & idiotic news anchors. This might increase voter turnout, too. You could leave a comment for your candidate, and (s)he just might leave one for you or make a video addressing your question. TWUT, forumers! |

Indeed. Generally, myspace users aren't exactly the type to get involved in politics. "ObAmA iS sO SeXXi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" |

Well, MAYBE, by being easier to communicate with, candidates might get more votes. |

Dude, Television. Speakings. They didn't need to get on freakin' MySpace, the anus of the internet, to get more votes. Most of the people on MySpace couldn't give a rat's butt if they could put Clinton in their Top 8. |

Yes...and the presidential candidates are obviously minors. (Well, we all know that they are minors in the head, even if not in the body.)
I think it's a fair idea, honestly. Sites like MySpace and YouTube are representative of the vox populi, since they're free, so anyone can get an account and post stuff there. For major celebrities to create their own accounts there as well just makes them look more like John Q. Taxpayer instead of some untouchably seperated individual living in a totally different society from our own. They're reachable now, which makes them seem more human--in essence, more like me--than appearing like some corporate droid being bought and controlled by the few with status and money. |

IMO, the people on MySpace shouldn't even be allowed to vote... |

He's saying Weird Al shouldn't be allowed to vote. And apparently, the presidential candidates already with MySpace pages. |

I think It's a great Idea. Generally, myspace reels in the younger crowd. Yeah there's a buncha stupid 14 y/o girls on there who wanna sleep with creepy old men because they're lost and lonely, but we'll just ignore them. The presidents' pages tend to be concise and to the point; they state their views on the issues in a neat and tidy manner. I think it's a good thing that the candidates are trying to appeal to their younger audience becuase their younger audience (18-24) needs to start getting into the issues and creating their own opinions. The future is just around the corner and some of these people need to get their heads in the game. They're going to be the ones making crucial decisions on who leads the country. They need to know who they're voting for and what the candidates stand for. Myspace provides a convenient way to get started. and seriously, everyone wants the president on their top 8. |

Some Myspace users are actually mature, and the pages for the candidates are usually pretty civil. The comments are almost entirely pledges of support and votes, and most importantly, a donations link is always conspicious . So I think this is a pretty good idea actually. It is at least worth a shot, since politicians have to get their message out on all mediums.

Not really. Political dichotomy seems to be the norm nowadays. People are unafraid to openly bash any political figurehead they deem incompetent, and openly say how they didn't vote for that person, whereas back in, say, the 1950s, you NEVER admitted to voting for a candidate that lost the Presidency. But here and now, I can easily say that I voted for John Kerry, since Bush backs homophobes. |
