What? Stop whining about first amendment rights? Yeah, I guess freedom isn't all that important. |

Frankly, when it comes to hanging nooses, I don't think it is that important. I wouldn't mind if it's illegal to hang nooses in a situation like that. Freedom of speech is one thing... death threats are another. Again, even if it were just a sick joke, it could easily be taken to be worse than that, and the guys who hung the nooses had to know that. - Kef |

Just my two cents here: Both sides went too far, so both sides should be punished. Race shouldn't matter. Just because you're black doesn't justify what you and 5 friends did to a white kid, even if they hung nooses from a tree. |

Stop whining about first amendment rights? Threatening another person isnt protected speech. And this what I mean when I say people shouldnt simply attack other just becaise they dont believe that every single thing counts as protected speech. |

This is not a First Amendment Issue. "I hate black people, and I don't want them under my tree" is protected. "Sit under my tree, and I will kill you" is NOT. |

Yeah, who would imagine that a guy with a Hitler avatar would be a hardcore racist?
(Yeah, I know IMDB doesn't permit avatars, but still. Oh, and welcome back, Yeltensic. - Kef |

Yeltensic wrote: Funnily enough, one of the "ZOMG Yeltensic is a hardcore racist!!" posters began a reply to me calling me "Adolf". I replied,"Wait, what? 'Adolf'? Is that supposed to be an insult?"
Thank you for the welcome, glad to be back. Shoulda said "It's spelled Adolph, and the only reason I didn't have black players is because we played games in places like Mississippi and Georgia where they would have been in danger." See if there are any Kentucky Basketball fans in there. As for this Jena stuff, I'm sick of it. People are suggesting that the noose kids should be in more trouble than the 6. OK, I know I'm not black (even if my dad's name is Tyrone), so I am supposedly not allowed to say things like this, but fortunately for the first amendment, I don't have "White Man's Guilt". A noose is a noose. Even if it is a threat, a threat is not 6 people beating one person. Honestly, I think people should get over slavery. Yes. I said that. Not in a trolling way, either. I'm serious. There are no former slaves OR former slave holders alive. Can't we all just get over this? It's been over 100 years. In before someone says "ARE YOU GOING TO TELL THE JEWS TO GET OVER THE HOLOCAUST?!?" No. Not yet anyway. They're still overly persecuted by a pretty sizable portion of the population (in the middle east, anyway). Maybe in 50 or 60 years, I might change that stance, but not right now. |

The Truth About Jena 6 Myth 1: The Whites-Only Tree. There has never been a "whites-only" tree at Jena High School. Students of all races sat underneath this tree. Myth 2: Nooses a Signal to Black Students. An investigation by school officials, police, and an FBI agent revealed the true motivation behind the placing of two nooses in the tree the day after the assembly. According to the expulsion committee, the crudely constructed nooses were not aimed at black students. Instead, they were understood to be a prank by three white students aimed at their fellow white friends, members of the school rodeo team. (The students apparently got the idea from watching episodes of "Lonesome Dove.") Myth 3: Nooses Were a Hate Crime. Although many believe the three white students should have been prosecuted for a hate crime for hanging the nooses, the incident did not meet the legal criteria for a federal hate crime. Myth 4: DA's Threat to Black Students. When District Attorney Reed Walters spoke to Jena High students at an assembly in September, he did not tell black students that he could make their life miserable with "the stroke of a pen." Myth 5: The Fair Barn Party Incident. On Dec. 1, 2006, a private party – not an all-white party as reported – was held at the local community center called the Fair Barn. Robert Bailey Jr., soon to be one of the Jena 6, came to the party with others seeking admittance. When they were denied entrance by the renter of the facility, a white male named Justin Sloan (not a Jena High student) at the party attacked Bailey and hit him in the face with his fist. This is reported in witness statements to police, including the victim, Robert Bailey, Jr. Myth 6: The "Gotta-Go" Grocery Incident. On Dec. 2, 2006, Bailey and two other black Jena High students were involved in an altercation at this local convenience store, stemming from the incident that occurred the night before. The three were accused by police of jumping a white man as he entered the store and stealing a shotgun from him. Myth 7: The Schoolyard Fight. The event on Dec. 4, 2006 was consistently labeled a "schoolyard fight." But witnesses described something much more horrific. Several black students, including those now known as the Jena 6, barricaded an exit to the school's gym as they lay in wait for Justin Barker to exit. (It remains unclear why Mr. Barker was specifically targeted.) You get the idea. I think the whole thing has been grossly misrepresented by the media. |
