So.. what effect do you think this'll have on peace in the middle east? I am hoping that the next leader will be more tolerant toward the israelis and try harder to patch things up. It's difficult, because without a new strong leadership, the PLO may disintegrate into numerous small organizations and become harder to manage. |

I agree, Elemental Wizard. But I also hope that the Israelis see this as an opportunity to reach out to the Palestinians and work for peace on their end as well. |

True indeed. I feel that the majority of Middle Easterners just want to live together in peace. Every culture has something different and intriguing to offer. |

Well, I think SOMETHING will happen now. Whether it's for the good or for the bad, I don't know. I've been heard as saying that the world is about 100 funerals away from world peace, but we're not going to agree on which 100 funerals

Gun shots during his funeral fired at the new interim leader's tent?! Is that normal? That can't be a good sign... |

Actually, from what I understand, gunshots are a key element of Near Eastern cultural expression these days. Gunshots can be heard at funerals, weddings, birthday parties. To them, they are just really loud noise-makers. I personally don't think it's very smart, but who am I to judge? Of course, there is also the possibility that radicals were trying to kill Arafat's successor, what's his name? Yousef, I think. |
