This guy brings up some great points. I'll share my views when I see a few of yours.

I liked what this commentator wrote:
Quote:
well lets see, as people are still allowed to protest, and nobodies been put in jail for protesting, i think your point is completely wrong. people have been put in jail for disrupting the peace and violence. you can't name one person who was just arrested for protesting in the right way. You guys really need to hop off the bandwagon and think for yourselves.

I'm not sure that he's entirely correct in asserting that no one has ever been arrested for merely protesting - I'm pretty sure that there have been cases where this has happened, but am too lazy to look for documentation right now. But he does have a good counterpoint: we still have basic freedoms in this country. We still have the right to engage in public discourse. We still have the right to our property, and to defend that property, to the extent that if even the police violate that right without due process*, they can be disciplined as well.

In short, if he is making the comparison between our modern "police state" here in the US and the police state he describes in Nazi Germany, then it doesn't apply. But on the other hand, he's not exactly saying that - his intent may be to simply challenge his hearers to consider these things before we ever reach such a state of things.

*due process meaning they have to have adequate cause for invading someone's property, as well as a warrant and other documentation. This is to ensure that, when their duty calls for it, they are not exercising that power arbitrarily, but for the sake of enforcing the law, fighting crime, and protecting innocent citizens.

I agree with what this guy said:
Quote:
The only thing that I disagree with, is how the said non-action of the Jews in the Holocaust makes it look as if it is the Jews fault that there was a Holocaust. There should be equal disgust over the apathy of compliance of the Nazis.

Otherwise it was great.

Also, I think this movie is relevant to this topic:
