Good lord.
Okay,
"Kiss Me, Son of God" is a great song with some great lyrics, but I have a hard time believing that it, having been released in 1988, is about Emper-- er, President Bush, or somehow prophesied his reign-- er, reign.
The song could be taken as a reference to any number of megalomaniacal leaders throughout history (one of the folks at TMBW suspects Alexander the Great, though he lived before Jesus), and knowing TMBG is probably someone far more mundane, like the CEO of Nike (to use a contemporary example) or, if you're into Disney musicals, Pulitzer and Hurst. The tone of the song (and the line "I've built a
little empire") has always suggested to me that the "and the world screams, 'Kiss me, son of God!' " line is really just the narrator's ego talking; that in fact the whole world doesn't worship him, but rather that, though he is very wealthy and powerful, he has somewhat of a Messiah complex.
At any rate, comparing this song to George W. Bush seems a little like flamebait to me.
