Legitimate marketing tool or exploitation of natural urges? |

Legitimate marketing tool and exploitation. If you can make someone believe that they will get the same results as the sex subjects they see in advertisements by buying the product being advertised, then you should jump all over it. That doesn't necessarily make it correct, though. |

LordQuackingstick wrote: Exploitation of natural urges? It's possible that there are problems with sex in advertising, but this definitely isn't it. People are responsible for dealing with their own urges. If some guy will buy any product advertised by a woman in a bikini, that's his problem. |

I say that, in most situations, it is a fair marketing tool that can surely up your product's sales just because a guy gets sweaty over a scantly-clad woman. However, if it is used in excess for products that shouldn't really need it, then it can become a problem. |

It bothers me that children have to deal with it though. I mean, there are ads for girls' dolls like Bratz that are so... inappropriate. |

Inappropriate for what? Children? Everyone? You can't just say "X is inappropriate"; it has to be inappropriate for something. (Sometimes what it's inappropriate for is implied, but in this case I don't think it is.) So, no, not full stop.

Also, I think one of their dumb songs has something to do with "Knowing what boys want." |

"I Know What Boys Want" was originally a song by The Waitresses in the early 80s. It was their only hit. |

Like, six to twelve year olds. They do have a target audience. It's inappropriate to them. I think that's what racerx meant. |

Sex sells. Simple as that. Now, that said, "sex appeal" is not always an appropriate factor in advertising, for example to children. Children don't need to be sold a lifestyle that promises them hordes of beautiful members of the opposite sex if they use this or that product. Bratz dolls just shouldn't exist. |

Face it, most of the sex in advertising is display of the female body with a slight focus on the chest and butt. |
