I know this is probably a little old now but a new, yet massive group of hackers called "Anonymous" are dancing a bit of a jig over the tubes.
This time, it's Against the Church of Scientology.

Apparently, "Anonymous" has been around a while, only just now are they executing their plans.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ

In the span of a week, the Anonymous Group has uncovered more documentation against the Church of Scientology than the 9/11 commission could in a year. If there ever was a conspiracy exposed this thoroughly, the CoS is the first one to be publicly humiliated in such a way. Not since Watergate has there been a more successful whistle-blowing operation.

The US Government is doing nothing about it. In fact, rumors are flying that the United States Government has been planning such an operation into the Church of Scientology for years, and letting this group do the work for them. I'm not condoning such activity but...that's really smart of the US Government.

Holy Hubbard!

http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=08/01/24/1311252 here's da scoop on that.

In related news, A 20-year-old ethnic Russian man is the first person to be convicted for taking part in a "cyber war" against Estonia.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7208511.stm

Since cyber wars cannot be fought alone, the new method of offense is to barrage the opponent with as many blows as possible from all sides. That way, the only way for the target to defend itself is to surrender, or pull the plug.

Wars used to be fought on the battlefield. Maybe some still are, but expect the 21st century war to be fought behind the keyboard.

Expect this to be more common in the coming years.

Wait, you haven't heard of Anonymous before?

Anyway, I heard about this, yeah, and I fully support it. I've DDoSed a bit myself, and I think that Scientology deserves whatever this brings upon them. They've set a lot of frivolous lawsuits in the past and may have already killed some people.

"New"? It isn't that new.

That being said, good job on the exposing...I guess. I don't really pay attention to stuff like this.

 So some people haven't heard of Anon. BFD, Cola.

I wonder if Anon is actually going to do something or just scare the crap out of people to get attention. Their Anthrocon protest didn't go to well, for example.

Scientology.org has already been taken down for brief stretches of time.

I think they're beginning to take notice. This is the most major raid the Internet has ever seen.

Anyways, I see nothing too different about this issue. Nothing that hasn't ever been a major problem before.

Dude, just stop trying.

It's not worth it anymore.

People will take you more seriously if you actually have textual content in your posts.

@Ian: I mean a collective effort against a particular target.

And Cola, if you're under some sort of impression that I don't "get it", sorry, but I browse that site daily, so the elitism really doesn't cut it.

The Church of Scientology was offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who narced on the hackers. About a million people linked them to 4chan, but no one saw a dollar.

Interesting. It's not like Scientology hasn't done things like that before, but that's just surprising they would be that straightforward in not living up to their word.

Worms and viruses are easier to contract, though.

Also, why are you attacking every post that you disagree with?

I see what you're trying to prove with your borderline spam there, but worms and viruses can take control faster than this.

I deleted COLA's two posts with only image macros, and removed them from the quotations as well. Geez those were annoying.

The Anthrocon dealie wasn't really organised by Anonymous itself. It was a couple fringe members* trying to, I guess, stir up attention and kudos for themselves. Nobody really wanted to join their party, which is why it ended like it did

And I support the activities against the Church of Scientology wholeheartedly, incidentally

No, Actually, it was *GNURRRRRRRRRRRGRGRGRGRGRGGRT* this time. I saw it get organized, planned, and innitiated myself.

Also, I contributed a little part to it's over-all effectiveness.

I have to say, Kef, usually you're really good about this stuff but this time you completely missed the point.

Anyway I don't particularly care who wins this battle, if anyone. Scientology is a load of crap and yes, it can screw people up, but since most people are smart enough not to believe it, it's pretty harmless.

I don't get it. Whatever explanation you have for that picture, COLA, it better comply with this statement:

I don't understand why people just don't get it. Anon is, simply, a joke. We wouldn't actually kill you or come to your house and rape you, we just playin'. We're not doing it for attention, although some maybe, we're doing it for our own personal entertainment.

Or as others would say, "For the lulz".
